Honey, be glad you weren't my mother's daughter. She wanted to name me Penelope Jane. God bless my father for stepping in and stopping her.
What's sad...but true... is that parents spend MONTHS looking for just the perfect name for our kids...and regardless of how beautiful the name, every kid becomes a teenager and hates his/her name. I have 5 kids...my husband has 4...and out of 9 kids only one thought his name was awesome when he was a teenager, Omri, and one found a nickname for her given name, Genevieve, that she thought was really cool.
Really sad is that the ones with the really cool names want to gangsterize them because the names are "too white". A mother simply can't win. But that also doesn't mean I was ever going to name Stephen "Ice T".
Your name is much more beautiful than you'll realize in the next 10 years. Your parents lovingly bestowed it on you with every hope that you would find its beauty and live up to that. If you're that insecure about such a beautiful name, call yourself Li and let everyone think you're a Chinese princess.

If you had a "normal" name, then you'd be complaining that your name is not unique enough and that three other girls with the same name always look when someone calls you. In addition to that, so many people are taking normal names and spelling them all weird, that it doesn't matter WHAT your name is: you're going to be spelling and pronouncing it for everyone for the rest of your life anyway. So ultimately it doesn't matter what your name is. May as well have something unique.

Being part Cherokee Indian is cool. As far as a name that people can pronounce...some people are just idiots and will never pronounce your name correctly no matter how easy it is. I think you should be proud to have a distinctive name.

Your name is unique and you should be proud of it. I know that can be easier said than done but...you have a very nice name. It is different but not bad at all!
Your question is not a bad question either!
I used to hate my name for many, many years but now...I have grown to be proud of it...as you should be of yours...maybe in time!
I also have Cherokee and Souix Indian blood in myself but unfortunally I don't have an Indian name.
I like it!

I think your name is very interesting and unusual, and pretty--that's the best!!
Btw, there's an excellent book out about your ancestors, *Voices of our Ancestors* that is very fascinating. The Cherokee/Tsalagi are a very interesting people who trace their lineage back to the "stars". I think you would benefit very much from reading it :)
And, take a look at this, too http://www.beautywayproductions.com/ it might be of interest. Dhyani is the author of the book. Best of luck--you come from a proud and interesting background--appreciate it !! :))))

Dont worry about what other people think of your name. It is unique and one day you will be thankful of that. Just be happy and if someone asks how to pronounce it tell them with a smile :)
