Jeff Gordon is actually the 2nd most popular driver in Nascar behind Earnhardt Jr. Go to a race and you will see his souvenier trailer has a huge line of Fans wanting to buy his gear. In fact I was just in Alabama last week, and I saw plenty of people wear 24 gear. And I also know many people from the south, who like Jeff Gordon. I think people dont like him, becuase he does win or has won alot in the past, maybe to many fans he just dominated a little to much, and he also helped take Nascar into a multi-billion dollar corporation complete with high ticket prices, I am not sure what the prices of tickets were when he came on, but now its very unaffordable. Also he doesnt really relate to the masses that much, look at his sponsors, who can afford a Tag Hueur watch? I think though that if Jeff were to retire say after this year, and leave Nascar for a few years, then make a comeback, he will be loved by most, and be really, really popular. It seems to work that way in Sports. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't consider Jeff Gordon unpopular... notice all the noise in the crowd at a race when he is introduced ??? At least the crowd IS making noise, so even with the boo's (which for some reason overlap the cheers) he is still getting publicity. By everyone making remarks about his sexuality and him cheating to win races, they are actually making his image more popular. At least ALL race fans know who he is, unlike some other driver's. Even bad feedback from the fans can have it's advantages for driver's. Keep's them in the spotlight !!
Go Jeff Gordon !!

Jeff Gordon is so unpopular because he wins all the time. When you watch Nascar on T.V. or you go to one of the races all you see are Jr. fans. Everyone wants Jr. to win and if Jeff Gordon is winning all the time then Jr. isn't. Plus there are a lot of jealous people out there, J.Gordon has it all.

Like everyone else has says, he wins.... but not lately :). Jimmie Johnson was a crowd favorite until he had a good winning streak and people get tired of the same drivers winning all the time *unless it's their driver of course*. I have a problem with any driver, like Gordon and Kyle Busch, if they're willing to take out a team mate or race dirty just for a win.

Looks like his popularity would be because of his ability as a driver. This makes him as unpopular as popular.
Then there are still some fans that feel politics of his contract were not totally honest with his transition from Busch to Cup.

well he is a good driver I think he comes off a little to politically correct. Its also like any other sport that has a dominant team people just want to see a change.

Depends how you define popular.
Jeff is far from unpopular, he is a very well known driver and has the 2nd largest fan base in the sport.
Some folks dont pull for him because he's a winner, me personally I just dont like his attitude, but he is an awesome race car driver. I really feel that his "snot nose" attitude is what drives folks away from him. BUT, I do think his attitude has improved with age, I actaully dis-like other drivers now more than Jeff.

Because he is Mr. PC. and a complete baby whiner pansy. He is a great driver. But I can't stand him and always boo him if I am at a race. He's the only driver I have seen that wanted to kick butt after a race but didn't take off his helmet. Guess he didn't want to mess that pretty boy face.

He is unpopular because he was given a great ride from hendrick at the start... EArnhardt had to earn his way from the bottom up... and everyone says Gordon is the best ever!... whoever says that is a moron.... picture this... everyone else in the field is driving impalas, and Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, and Casey Mears all have Corvettes.... Jimmie is much better than Gordon... but they all can't compare to Earnhardt... watch an old iroc race and see where gordon finishes without a hendricks car or rained out red flags....
