First clear it by turning it a few full revolutions to the right.
Go to the first number.
Turn it left to the second number.
Turn it right to the third number.
Open.

It's usually two or three revolutions to the right, one complete turn to the left, and then a revolution to the right again. Depending on the age of the safe. If it's an older model, it's three right, two to the left, and one to the right.

Turn dial clockwise at least one revolution to 0.
Turn dial clockwise to 1st number.
Turn dial counterclockwise one revolution, then to 2nd number.
Turn dial clockwise to 3rd number (do _not_ turn one revolution to get to the 3rd number or you'll need to start over).
Turn handle to open...
