The bible doesn't say that.
It says the animal were not enough company for Adam and Adam was alone. He needed someone like himself to communicate with.

It states in Geneis 2 that he was given the task of naming the animals, and the passed before him for that purpose. In the Bible, if you give something a name it is an indication that you have control over that person/object.
Following the naming of the animals, it is stated by God that none of the animals were found suitable to be a mate for Adam. It does not state that Adam looked them over for that purpose. So God caused a sleep to come over the man, and he took genetic material (a rib) from the man and formed the woman.
Notice that the man did not name the woman until after they had sinned and been expelled from the garden. Until that time, they were equals before God. So the man did not have the authority to name her. It was not until after sin entered that man began to take dominates over woman, and named her.

HELPER is the thought here.., NOT MATE! Before God put him to sleep and took his feminine principle from his "one body" and put HER in HIS face... making them two bodies, but still "one flesh"..., Adam was LIKE God in that He was whole and complete within himself. It's just that the ole' boy was obviously visual and still just was lonely without his "helper" BEside him rather than INside him. You know, many men in the natural, still have great difficulty getting in touch with their "insides", their heart...,
We don't have any idea how child reproduction would have been accomplished before the separation of Adam into male/female aspects. God called "them" Adam. Adam called HER Eve.
Can you not see from the male and female anatomy that one plugs into the other to "come together" for reproduction since the separation?
He is the "head" of the couple as Jesus is to the church..., but She is the "heart" of the couple as the Church is to Jesus. (Head never meant "boss"; but responsible for decisions, spiritual leader, initiator, etc.) She was formed from the "rib".., look at the rib of a ship and you will see it is part of the support system and holds the form and hull together. The "rib" has great strength. Heads and hearts must come together to make decisions or the outcome is either all logic or all emotion and is supposed to be a perfect combination of both! Then after both views are considered, the decision is spoken and HE initiates it unless it is her forte. These two halves are equal. Never say two un-equal halves of any fruit.
Adam's rib was always there even AFTER she was put in his sight.
"Mate" wasn't stated here. Re-read.
