Does anyone know what the origin of the surname Gowrie?
I can't seem to find it anywhere?
I desperately need help as I need to find out for school tomorrow.

After a lot of googling, I would suggest that the family name Gowrie comes from a 24-kilometre stretch of low-lying country known as the Carse of Gowrie that runs from Perth to Dundee, Scotland, along the Firth of Tay. The country is famous for its vegetables and produce:

It is not as usual to take a surname from a place, such as Gowrie or Hamilton, as it is to take a surname that describes a geographical feature, say Hill, Burns, or Brooks, but that is probably what happened with your family. Incidentally, there is also a Gowrie, Iowa, USA, and a Gorwrie, Tasmania, Australia.

Ancestry.Com shows 2 from Scotland and 2 from Great Britain. Also the census records have many from Scotland.

Now if you are furnished a link by someone to a coat of arms, beware of the coat of arms peddlers. In the United States there are no laws regarding heraldry and they can sell you one without documented proof that you are entitled to it. They just go on your surname which isn't valid at all.

According to Ellisisland.org, most were from Scotland, but many came from the British and Spanish possessions in the Caribbean into the US, such as Jamaica, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

I'm sure it was originally Scottish, but you may have had several generations of ancestors living on islands in the West Indies.

Tomorrow? Sounds like procrastination. You could look for the name at familysearch.org or the census at ancestry.com, or immigration through ellisisland.org or castlegarden.org for some home origins.
