What can these two great Religious groups do together to make America one nation of people under God setting the pace for higher "MORAL" and "ETHICAL" standards in American society?

Catholics and Protestants the same believe God and Jesus Christ its only son. Moral and ethics do not depend on religion, depend on the education that we receive. We must teach our children always to act with honesty, without harming the others, no type of preconception and extreme greed. We have that to teach our children not to make to the others what they do not want that they make our children. I believe in such a way that, we will be contributing to not only improve America, but also the other peoples. Peace

Really quite allot. Faith in Christ and obedience to Him. I am a Protestant and have many Catholic friends that I consider strong Christians. This is the case for my Protestant friends as well. I have aquaintances that are either Catholic or Protestant that I would never consider real Christians by the way they live...in name only. Of course if you are looking for an excuse to not "taste and see that the Lord is good" you will find one or make one up! If a hypocrite stands between you and God, the hypocrite is closer to God than you.

A list of commonalities and differences between catholics and protestants may be observed here:

http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_capr.htm

However the conflict between the two is seemingly irreconcilable. Protestants refuse to consider catholics to be "christians" and catholics consider protestants very misled.

And you are also misled if you think that belief in god results in higher moral and ethical standards. Every study and every index possible has proven that's simply not the case. The highly secular, highly atheistic societies experience higher standards of living and morality than ours. Atheist countries have, by far, the LOWER rates of crime, murder, violence, rape, abortion, stds, teen pregnancy, divorce, vandalism, etc. while the christian dominant America is much higher on the scale.

America is uniquely religious for a civilized nation, and it is (as a result) uniquely socially dysfunctional. If you look at the most religious cities and states in the US, they also have the highest crime/rape/murder/abortion/etc. and problems. There is a direct connection between faith and social dysfunction and immorality! Remember that the most christian nation the world's seen was Nazi Germany (55% protestant and 40% catholic) and they made Germany one people under god, and look what happened!

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

With love in Christ.

They are both guided by the propaganda of their religion. Currently, they are involved in trying to accomplish what could not be accomplished during the Crusades. I am so happy and contented knowing that I do not belong to any religious group or organization. And no, I am not an Atheiest.

Belief that Jesus is God's only begotten Son and that He is God who came to the earth in the form of the man Jesus, to die for our sin. Who ever believes in Him should not perish but, have everlasting life. So, my answer is Jesus.

We must accept each other as Christians and work together to become the hands and feet of Jesus.

Well, for starters, but believe the bible is the word of god... both know that it is an offshoot of Judaism... and both reject Judaism even though the messiah himself was a Jew. Neither encourages their followers to learn about the roots of their religion outside of their particular dogma. And most of all, both are kept going by individuals who believe in them, despite the evidence to the contrary.

We have a lot more in common than most "fundamentalists" and many Protestants in general would like to admit.

Imagine if we could pool our resources and work towards a common good rather than fight over our petty differences.
