Last September they had selected a site near Marysville, Oregon but abandoned that plan after environmentla and siting issured arose and government officials balked at the financing.
A site has been chosen for a new race track...Port Orchard, Oregon...west of Seattle across the Puget Sound. They want to build an 80,000-seat track. If Legislature approves and county permits are issued, construction could begin in 2007 or 2008. So hopefully by the 2009 season we will see this new track in the pacific northwest!

Why does NASCAR need a new track? The ones it has are enough. To schedule a race at a new track means either A) you're going to have to extend the schedule or B) Move an exisiting date to the new track (ok losing a race at California isn't all that bad) and it's bad enough that the Rockingham and second Darlington race are gone now. Staten Island was a bad idea anyway I've been through the area they wanted to put the track and it's a nightmare there. Another road course isn't a bad idea though.

Louisiana track proposed, could be started soon: Construction on a motor speedway in Ouachita Parish [Louisiana] could begin within three months. BizCapital President John M. Brocato confirmed Wednesday the company will finance the $6.2 million project, which is also backed by a U.S. Agriculture Department loan guarantee of 70%. The Monroe Motor Speedway, which will feature a three-eighths mile oval surrounding a figure-eight course, will be built on 55 acres fronting Wagon Wheel Road just off of the Interstate 20 frontage road east of Garrett Road. "It's a dream that took more than 20 years," said Stu Bashner, managing partner of an ownership group that includes about 20 investors. "I'm excited and relieved at the same time." Bashner said the speedway complex, which will include a grandstand that can seat up to 4,000 fans, will be ready for racing in January 2008. Total seating for 5,000 fans. Bashner and other investors bought the track site more than three years ago but weren't able to secure financing until the USDA approved the loan guarantee about four months ago. Breck Construction of Monroe will build the complex. Bashner said Paxton Waters, who has designed such tracks as the California Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, will be the architect for the project.

The last two 'new' tracks I hear rumor of were NYC (Staten Island ) and Commerce City (Denver) Colorado, have both been dropped by ISC (International Speedway Corp). They declined to purchase an old air field in Colorado, and they are selling the land previously acquired on Staten Island.
Reports say they are still interested in possible other sites in the Denver area, (a parcel or land near Front Range Airport in Aurora).
There is also a new 2.2 mile road course being built in North Carolina (http://www.racehighrock.com/) , but no idea if it will make an appearance on the NASCAR schedules. Doubtful.
Another track being discussed for a Nextel Cup race is the road course in Montreal Canada. While its not a 'new' track, it would be new for Nascar, and help to expand their international marketing.

YES!!!! They building one close to where I live. In south Alabama. I think they are talking or considering only racing at Talladega once a year and this other track in Alabama once a year. Dale Jr. was down here a few months ago and was on the local news saying he was gonna help fund the money to build this track. It's supposed to be located near Saraland, Alabama - which is very close to Mobile, AL.
Unless there's another track being built somewhere, but I know of this one because it was all over the news here.

If you build it, they (NASCAR) won't come.
There are too few races to go around now. One of the current tracks that have two dates would have to give one up in order for a new track to get a race. I do not see that happening anytime soon.

Haven't heard anything about a new track, but since the drivers and owers get to spend so little time at home with the families and children I doubt they would be to happy to spend more time away.

I heard that Dale Jr. is building one in Mobile Alabama. Don't know if Nascar will race there or not. Go to Alabamamotorsports.com and check it out.
