Great story BASS Fisherman!

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use the heaviest line you can get away with under the present conditions. My rods are spooled with 8# - 65# test line. The small stuff on spinning rods for open water situations and suspended fish. The heavy line on flipping sticks for fishing the thickest cover where you have to control the fish and quickly get it out and on top. It is not uncommon to catch a 5 lb bass with 5lb of weeds wrapped around itself and the line.

I use between a 8 lb test and 14 all the time. It depends on the cover, what reel i am using, and the fishing conditions.

here is what i use when fishing Cover:
Heavy cover i would go with 14 lb
medium i would go with 10 or 12 lb.
little or no cover i go with 8 lb

above is my chart for a few of the line i use like cajun line, trilene maxx, trilene xl

if you are using fireline or spiderwire 10 lb test would work in almost everything. These lines are unbelieveably strong.

I use from 4 to 10 pound test, but that is for soaking worms or small to medium lures. If I was fishing for big bass in heavy cover I would use heavy line up to 20 pound test.

8lb test is fine but you need to look at the conditions that your fishing in. like is there alot of grass, reeds rocks, wood. if you are fishing around heavy cover you might want to go up to 12. berkley big game is the best. also water clarity makes a difference. gin clear water the lighter lines will work better. where stained or muddy water you can get away with the heavier line.

Well, your true the ligher pound line the more likely i think you'll be able to catch fish. while 8 pound is good it could be a little heavy, when i bass fish i like to use REALLY light line like 4, 4 is a good average. sometime i even use 2 pound line just be careful when you reel. and lighter line will cast farther. plus it also depends on what line u use.

Depends on water clarity. If you can see down around 2 feet, I would use 8# fluorocarbon. For dirtier water, go with a higher test - at least 12#. Also, if there is a lot of cover like tree's. stumps, etc., you might want heavier line.

Thats good if you are fishing in no to light cover. I use the Berkley Trilene 8lb. XL. If you are fishing in heavy weeds or fallen trees you want to up that to about 12 to 16lb. In most cases, 8lb. will be just fine.

Between 8-12 pound test. Using much lighter lines may produce good bait action but they beak easily especially when snagged.
