If they exist then I assume that heaven would be much better than hell.
What I object to is the entrance requirements. If god's requirement is "love me and get in, don't love me and go to hell" then I am not impressed. That means, among other things, that good people can be sent to hell just for not being Christian and really, really bad people can get to enjoy heaven just because they loved Jesus.
That's my problem with the whole idea.

Well, let's see. Based on the common beliefs about heaven (atheists aren't big on reading the Bible), everybody worthy of getting in sits around singing praises to God forever.
For atheists and most Christians alike, doing that for one hour a week is pure hell.
Eternity vs one hour a week. You do the math.
The problem stems from there being this nebulous description of what existence will be like in heaven. Without details or a common reference point, people are unable to appreciate what they would be missing. At least hell has a bit more detail in it that people can relate to.
Eternity - infinity - harmony
All concepts humans are wholly unsuited to fully comprehend. That is why religions rely exclusively on faith and obedience without question.

Atheists don't believe in heaven or hell. If you don't believe a place exists, your not going to think it's better than another place.

Nope. I don't believe hell is going to be better than heaven. Mainly because I don't believe that hell or heaven exist. Do you understand now? No, probably not...

Atheists have no view on heaven since they don't believe in it. They don't believe in hell either.

Put down your bible for a sec. Tune out your fellow back-patters for a moment and pay attention:
We don't think there is a heaven or a hell.

A bad view of an imaginary place. It is like having a bad view of middle earth. Sounds bad, but doesn't exist. Same thing with heaven, sounds bad, but doesn't exist.

I do not have a bad view of heaven. In my opinion heaven does not exist. Neither does hell. Neither does god.

It's not that we have a bad view of heaven. (Well, some of us do... I personally don't want to spend an eternity brown-nosing a genocidal war-god)
We don't believe it or its counterpart exists.

They don't want to be anywhere where they would be worshipping God constantly. They know according to the gospel they won't be going there, so maybe they feel a little left out and try to knock heaven.
