It definitely helps me understand. Do I agree with it? Absolutely not. I think it's a sad way to think. Why would you want to go through life thinking like that? Even if...Atheism COULD be true, I would NEVER choose to believe that. It's sad and depressing and I would rather cling to hope than die thinking that you're just worm food...
You shouldn't laugh when a hurst goes by
Cause you might be the next to die
They'll warp you up in a bloody sheet
And bury you down about six feet deep
All goes well for about a week
Until your coffin begins to leak
The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out
The worms play peeknuckle in your snout
They eat your eyes, they eat your nose
They eat the jelly between your toes...
Ewww...no thank you. I'll stick to thinking about Heaven.

I seem to recall an axiom from Chemistry that states matter or energy can neither be created or destroyed, it simply transfers states (or something like that). Therefore, I was Daddy's little squirt appropriately combined with Momma's egg! I can not be certain WHERE you came from...
So, no, you have not cleared up anything for me. Taking the axiom a little further, man must have either ALWAYS existed or had a beginning. I think we all agree that the human species has not enjoyed an infinite reign.
Therefore, I choose to believe an all powerful God created man. While I suppose you choose to believe man descended from the apes or out of some primordial ooze. I am not sure which theory I have seen more science fiction novels and movies based on...but my emphasis would be on FICTION!
God bless,
Steve

where i was before i was born is probably the same place i am when i sleep and dream and probably the same place when i die
now no one can tell you for a certain about anything before you enter into this physical existance or after you leave it
however, there are many advances in the study of sleep, dreams and the subconscious... you may be surprised to find out just what your mind is capable of when your brain puts your body to sleep... notice i said MIND... it is the existance that controls and manipulates brain functions ... much like a player would control a simulated character in the many forms of RPG's available in many formats
just because you do not have any awareness or memory of existance does not mean that it is not there... otherwise people with amnesia and in a coma would be considered dead...because they are not aware of their existance as defined by conventional memory
does this help you understand
notice that that the only mention of God occurs now... existance is totally separate from life in the definition of Minds

Yep, that's what I believe and I've been an Atheist all my life. Maybe that's why I live my life to the fullest and do good NOW while I am here and conscious to enjoy it. When you're dead, that's it, absolute nothing, you're DEAD! No feelings, emotions, even blackness and nothingness isn't sufficient enough to explain the void of your existence. You are NO MORE. And, that is how I explain it, like before you were born...knowing nothing.

But what if there is something after? What if all these "fundies" as they are called, know something that some people are not willing to accept? In essence, what if the atheist is wrong? That would be most unfortunate. Is there not something in the back of everyone's mind that tugs at them, giving a small, faint hope that there is something after this life? In my opinion, If there is nothing to gain or lose at the end of our lives, it makes life somewhat of a futile exercise. Yes, one could live their life to the fullest and with a great a sense of humanity and morality, whatever his/her beliefs, but in all honesty, what for? This would not, in the end, separate the murderer from the doctor, or the burglar from the police officer, we all end up the same. What's the incentive? It is human nature to want to do things with a positive result in sight. Very profound issue. Do you possibly understand a little more now what is going through the minds of people of faith?

No, although your idea is more believable than Christianity you are still making an absolute statement about an unknown.
Any absolute statement about an unknown is a guess.
Edit: OK, I understand now that you are calling it a belief...(what I found to be an absolute about an unknown is 'before you were born you weren't anywhere', I don't know that.) And like I said, more believable than religious explanations. But not what I believe.

Yes and that's exactly what the Bible teaches. When we die we return to the dust we came from. The dead know nothing. That is of course until Chirst comes and raises the righteous dead and takes them to heaven to live forever.

Riegan, not all Christian believe that the soul is immortal. I for one do not. In my study of the bible, I think it is clear that those who reject Christ will simply be as if they never were. They will die and be dead forever. They will not suffer eternal torment. Only those who accept Christ will live for eternity.

I said it in a different way. I believe that a thousand years from now I'll feel exactly as I did a thousand years ago. It wasn't that bad.

ALL UNBELIEVERS think this way that is why there is so much sin in the world they don't believe they will be held accountable for all their sins and wrongs in this life, they can go to death just Scott free,,,, Well they are all wrong and I wish they could understand this, there is a God and he will punish all who do not believe he is real and accept him and his son Jesus Christ.
