Some of the stuff was stupid and some of it is in the field already.

Probably the biggest problems were the literal wire that would connect the rifle to the trooper. I would imagine it would get tangled up in brush and other objects. Another problem would be that each trooper would be the key to unlocking the whole military strategy. That's because they would have an eye piece or a Blackberry like device that would show where all the troops were in real time. I would imagine that helmet eye piece would be more like a eye patch than actually helpful.

Now some things that are out in the field now. The GPS system is in every cell phone and cell phones come with cameras now so it shouldn't be that hard to supply real time information without compromising security. The uniform (which might be replaced with better camouflage and armor are also already on the battlefield. The M16A4 that is now in the field is basically the same rifle that the land warrior was going to use.
