If you don't like gay marriage, don't marry a gay person. Why would two people in love getting married affect you? How is it any of your business? I feel like religious people are so hateful sometimes and hide thier hate behind the bible to seem like a good person. Why can't more people worry about their OWN lives rather than worrying about what everyone else is doing.

Yeah. I don't get it. No one is telling the CHURCH they have to accept it. If they believe it is wrong, that is their perrogative. But marriage is also a LEGAL institution. We allow atheists, Jews, Wiccans, etc. to marry, so why not homosexuals? They just want the same LEGAL rights as straight people.

And to the person who brought up insurance, yeah - it's really corporate America who are fighting it because right now a gay employee is a windfall. If I were running it, I would tell all the gays and lesbians to enter into nice church-sanctioned sham marriages with each other to teach corporate America a lesson about insurance. They have the right to marry someone they don't love, so use it to prove the point.

Jenny, your question is making a statement that shows a desire to distort religious people as being hateful. What you are accusing Christians of doing toward homosexuals, you are doing toward the religious. When the homosexual encroaches on everyone else, it becomes my business and I no longer have the luxury of worrying about my own life. What everyone else is doing is now being done where I live.

However, to answer your question. Marriage is a holy institution that was created by God to be a "type" or "model" of the relationship between Christ and the church as well as the relationship between Jehovah and Israel. To distort it is to be taking something given by God and trodding it underfoot.
When two people of the same gender engage in intercourse, this activity is already in violation of scripture and God's order. So why the need to be married? Just partner, make a promise to one another and create a legal contract. But do not call it "marriage" because that is a holy institution.
Now, if you want to promote legislation that such partnering should entitle them to the same tax and insurance benefits as other married people--that is different. In fact, I think it is wrong that married people should have any benefit over single--or any other relationships. It shows an inequality. Show me legislation like that, and I will vote for it.
The crux of the issue is that homosexuals want a free pass. They find churches that ignore or distort the Bible so that they engage in their practice with impunity. Now they are encroaching upon marriage. Joe Dallas is the author of the book "The Gay Gospel?" and he writes the following...

"The goal of the gay-rights movement is twofold: To convert the culture's thinking on homosexuality, then to marginalize or silence those who won't be converted.

So far, the movement has converted the thinking of our most influential institutions. The American Psychiatric Association, the academic establishment, the media and Hollywood have all largely adopted a pro-gay viewpoint.

But the last major obstacle to the full acceptance of homosexuality is the Church, which is largely influenced by the Bible. So if the Christian population can be persuaded that the Bible doesn't condemn homosexuality, or that the Bible is irrelevant, then that would virtually ensure a pro-homosexual culture." - Joe Dallas, author of The Gay Gospel? How Pro-Gay Advocates Misread the Bible

This encroachment is why we stand and object rather than passively give-in to their agenda.

So thumbs down me as you will.

Hunny, its called love. Us christians hate to see gay marriages because we know what the bible says about a man with a man or a woman with a woman. Let me tell you something,I am a christian I love god with all my heart and I wouldn't live another day without him. I use to be hard into drugs been with alot of different men and even lost my kids due to the life style I was living. I was raped beaten from men sence the age of 2. I hated god and couldn't understand why he would let this happen to me or anyone at that matter. God loves all of us rether we accept him or not. I don't think I am any better that anyone else cuz I lived a life of sin too at one time. My heart goes out to people bacouse I know the misery life can bring. One more little story for you. My older brother is gay, he lives with his boyfriend, I don't love him any less, I feel bad for him,cuz he know's its wrong but as a result of child of abuse at a very young age from a man that's what he knows. The one thing I have never done is hide behind the bible, my testimony speaks for me and for what god has done in my life. The one thing the bible does do for me is give me hope, and understanding of why things are the way they are. No sin was meant to be in this world,But as sad as it is sin is in this world and all we can do as christians is pray for people and love them no matter what life style they choose to live. And pray.

Because some people believe that marriage is a religious institution between god and man.

I personally disagree with this because if it were so, the state couldn't legally charge money for a marriage license for something that's strictly a religious event. Also, atheists and agnostics would be ineligible to marry because they have no religious affiliation.

Some people also believe that marriage is for purposes of procreation...

Again, I disagree. If this were true, those heterosexuals who are married and have no desire to have children don't fit the description of marriage, and should be legally required to divorce. Also, if this were true, those heterosexuals who are incapable of having children should also be ineligible to marry. Also, if this were true, sex would not be enjoyable. It would be viewed strictly as a "baby making session". All the kinky pleasures of sex...(including oral and anal sex) would be strictly forbidden and the only sexual position allowed would be missionary.

In a nutshell...anybody who is religiously affiliated and against gay marriage (or atheist and agnostic marriages), that practices oral or anal sex, or has sex for pleasure, and doesn't view sex as a baby making session only, is a hypocrite, and should be ashamed of themselves.

Because the Bible says so.
I totally agree with you. The Bible has no place in our laws. Not letting people marry is a horrible violation of civil and human rights. They have the same rights everyone else does. Until I hear an argument that IS NOT religious, I stand by the fact that its unconstitutional!!

The people who are against gay marriage have yet to personally experience Love as it truly exists.

True Love, is Loving unconditionally. If you can't Love without condemnation of others, then you aren't expressing true Love.

Because a lot of people are jerks and they put there own beliefs above the welfare and the actuality of the human condition. Gay is not a choice. Denying it, is however.

Actually, it seems like you are more concerned about it than I am. I am a Christian, but believe it or not I do not spend my days fighting about what other people are doing. I am not on the picket lines, I have a real life that I am too busy in.

If you ask me I will always be against Gay Marriage, that doesn't mean I am attacking the individual. Being Gay, (contrary to popular belief) is not something you are born with, look it up and study, people that turn gay were first straight and was getting "around" a lot or usuing a lot of vasoline or whatever and because of this sin they actually started to get BORED with woman! I know quite a few people who because of an overstrong sex drive they started to turn gay. With woman it is usually because of holding grudges against men and then they start to try and live without men in their life so they seek their affection from woman. God says that its an abomination because He knows how it starts. It is an attack against His divine plan He started at Creation. It is also a symbolic attack against Jesus and the church! Ephesians 5:23-25,32

That is why I do not accept gay marriage, but also remember this, that we as Christians are not to attack individuals but to remember what we do fight.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

I don't know. I think they want everyone to think and feel as they do, with very little room for debate, reason and personal thinking. I agree with you. It does not affect them. Of course, it seems like christians are obsessed with sex! Maybe they're repressed.
