The best weapon would be a weapon that destroys all other weapons and makes sure that they can never be made again.

Depends on what the implementation will be. An assault rifle is very nice for moving combat and assault. It isn't real good for close in work like room clearing, where SMGs and pistols work better. Sniper rifles are good for sniping and not much else. Machine guns are good if vehicle mounts are available, or if a static position is used, but not if a lot of movement is necessary.

each weapon has it's uses, an assault rifle isn't the best sniper rifle, but a sniper rifle isn't a good fit for an infantryman. heavy machine guns are useful for penetrating armor and such, and pistols are close in personal weapons
