I would have to say we have too much of the wrong kinds of food. Fast food and junk food are much cheaper and of course more fun to eat. And portions are outragous. Fresh veggies, fruit and meat are expensive, especially if you are feeding a family. I lived in Japan for a couple of years and loved the fresh food markets. They were wonderful.

Portion sizes are much larger in American than Europe, and the marginal cost to upsize is much smaller. For instance, a large pizza may be $10, but an Extra-Large, which may be 25% bigger, is only $10.50.

People generally tend to eat full portions regardless of the size, and the problem continues.

Saying America has "too much food" isn't really accurate. But we do have a lot of the wrong kinds of food, and are often incentivized to eat too much of it.

NO, I think American's mostly eat high fat fast foods. I live half the year in Europe and I eat more overseas than in the states. The thing is I also walk everywhere in Europe. Americans need to get out of the house more a move their bodies.

its not just America...its industrialized nations...with free trade and globalization, all industrialized countries have access to all sorts of products...I'm in Korea and Koreans are always calling Americans fat, but the truth is Korean kids are overweight because of their poor eating habits, rigorous studying schedule and lack of exercise..historically Koreans were rather frail and tiny because of their simple diets consisting of rice and vegetables, but now all i see kids eat is Asian style street food and western style junk food....
