I don't know if you would consider this a sermon or not.

I was given a word from the Lord about grace. Hope I can write it out as it is very dear to my heart.I was struggling with the concept of grace. And this is what the Lord taught me from my own father.(who was covered in the Lord, and walked with honor.)

My father was a carpenter, for his passion to build was great. He took great care in his tools and shop and his workmanship was displayed everywhere in our home, that he had also built.
I was his youngest child, and favored by him as the last little one on his knee.
One summer day, I decided to play in my fathers shop. Sitting amid the sawdust and smellling the smells of varnish and oils playing where I knew that I shouldn't. I took some of my fathers tools, and began to make mudpies, shaping them working hard as only a child can at play.
A shadow fell over me as my father walked in his shop to find, dirt, stain and dissarray everywhere from my disobedience. He was so angry in his judgement, so tall looking down at me, his once beloved child.
I began to weep, for fear of disobeying this man who had held me so dear to his chest. For letting him down, and for doing what I knew was wrong.
He sent me to my mother in the house, that he had built. She took one look at me with sadness and compassion, and holding my hand, led me to a hot bath to wash the dirt away. With great care, and a small song on her lips she caused the dirt and the fear to dissapate....Taking me out of the tub, wrapping me in a soft white robe, clean and fresh and new sent me back to my Father...and as he looked at me, the great anger left his face, and I was forgiven, once again sitting on his knee, knowing the shelter of his love.

be blessed in your Father this father's day...

for my dad who walked a walk that my heavenly father could use to teach me grace.

The same one I give my kids every year when they ask me what I want for fathers day... I tell them a day off.

Not actually a sermon but it gets as much attention as one.. No one listens.

They plan a big barbeque for me, at my house of course and then I have to mow the lawn edge clean the patio and the grill wash the patio furniture While my poor wife is in cooking like a maniac for the tribe. Then they all show up I get to do a burnt offering on the grill I get to watch the grandchildren dump their plates of food on the clean patio and their parents sit there looking at it like its never happened before then having to jump up and help my wife clean up before she looses it because shes been after the kids since they got there.

All in all I love having them come over but really what I want.... a day off.
