Is masturbation wrong in islam?

Hi, ive recently convetered and heard that masturabtion is wrong in islam but if i dont masturbate i feel depressed and get sextual urges. any advice? Thanks

Mashallah brother may Allah bestow upon you the paradise he has created for the believers.. Inshallah (ameen). Well the answer for your sexual urges is Marriage. In Islam its better to get married when your young. Islam strictly forbids the waste of seminal fluid through masturbation. The one who discharges his seminal fluid with his hand is damned. This evil practice removes the normal bright look of a man's face, and he looks melancholy and dejected. He loses his health and quite frequently his vitality and sexual stamina through this disgusting practice.

The Qur'an declares: "The Believers are those who abstain from sex except with those joined to them in marriage bond, or those whom their right hand possess for (in their case) they are free from blame, but those who crave something beyond that are transgressors."

Beyond the wife and slave woman all ways and means of sexual satisfaction are unlawful. They include adultery, sodomy, masturbation, etc. From this it can be deduced that masturbation falls under the context 'but those who crave...' and is therefore immoral and a sin in Islam. Views expressed by the Shafi'i jurists on this matter are clearly illustrated by Imam Nawawi whose opinion is typical of the Shafi'i jurists as a whole. He declared that masturbation was absolutely forbidden. It was only permitted when it was performed by the hand of a man's wife or concubine, for he has a right to the enjoyment of her hand as he has to the rest of her body.

According to the Maliki school of thought masturbation is deduced to be illegal from the following hadith narrated by 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (Radhiallaahu Anhu): "We were with the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) while we were young and had no wealth whatsoever. The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: 'O assembly of youths; whoever among you possesses the physical and financial resources to marry, should do so, because it helps him guard his modesty; and whoever is unable to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power.'"

Therefore, the jurists of this school are of the opinion that if masturbation was permitted, the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) would have acknowledged its permissibility because this is much simpler than fasting. Since the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) did not mention it, demonstrates that it is prohibited.

From the evidence presented so far, it can be seen that Shari’ah not only classifies this type of unnatural waste of seminal fluid as illegal, but also advocates strict measures for its prevention.

Brother like how people here are sayin everything is wrong is not true. Brother its only a few things that are really not allowed. Marry and have the best from your wife brother. Islam always has logic behind everything. Masturbation makes the muscles and the nerves of the reproductive organ sagging and lifeless. Accumulation of fluids in the veins makes it unfit for its normal function. There is extreme feebleness in the power of erection. The heat of the friction between the delicate muscles of the organ and the tough hide of the hand damages the former beyond repair.

Inshallah brother try your best to be in the right path and NOT the victim of Shaitaan. Surely Allah is the most merciful and tends to forgive those of his believers who repent from their sins, for it is he who is Oft Forgiving, the most merciful.

I have heard conflicting views.

In general it is considered wrong to do anything sexual out side of marriage.

But some say that if you do something sexual to keep your self from doing something worse it is okay. In other words if you masturbate so you don't have the urge to have pre-marriage sex it is okay.

Alhamdullillah. U have converted to Muslim. Anyway, Islam forbid masturbation. Its haram. If U have a strong sexual urges, try fasting, U will be able to overcome it. When U fast, U cannot masturbate, as such, U will not experience the sexual urges. Give a try . It works.

I did learn that it is haram. But i think it is because marriage is encouraged therefore children are produced. Maybe god doesn't want your baby batter to go to waste. LOL. I am dissappointed in the other answered i read. I don't think anyone should judge a religion unless they were a scholar in it first.

You can send me an e-mail, whenever you feel conflicted. About that masturbation thing, there are three cases.
1-) If you just do it for sexual pleasure it is forbidden.
2-) If you are just about to have sex with a woman that you are not married to, ( which is a very very rare situation, for example a hooker has just jumped into your car and she is naked and you two are all alone... ) you "have to" masturbate. Because if you masturbate, you won't have sex with that woman that is on to you. Fornication is considered to be a very bad sin in Islam... In that case masturbation prevents you from fornication...
3-) If you have a really bad sexual urge, that even while praying to god you think about sex, when you hug your mum you think about sex, than you are " allowed to " masturbate, but if you do not masturbate and challenge yourself, you try not to think about sex just for the sake of Allah, it is just better...

First of all my heartly congratulations for reverting to Islam.

I too am a victim of masturbation and recently did research on this topic. It is haram and one should resist such temptations. I too have not done it for 3 days now , Alhamdulilah .... I'll tell you how i control my deisre..

- Keep in mind of harmful effect on eyesight and nervous system

-Will lead to unsatisfactory sex performance with wife , would u like that?

-Fear Allah , And ask Him to give you power

And recite Prophetic supplications at night and in the morning.

When u sleep at night you should recite Surah AlAhad.

I'll pray for you when i visit Makkah next time , inshAllah.

Are you gonna tell everybody everytime you do it? It is not wrong when no one knows. It will be wrong to your mental and physical health if done excessively with or without religion.
