Dont get me wrong im all for womens rights but i opened the door for a lady the other day and she looked at me as though she wanted to spit on me and didnt say thank you - so my question is this -
does a man being chivalrous offend you?

does it make you feel inferior somehow letting a man help?

My intention was to simply hold the door open for her and had she have been a man i would have held it open anyway.

No it doesn't offend me. I guess I'm old fashioned that way. It's certainly nicer than letting it close in my face. I think that's disrespectful for either sex.

I'm married, but I still think it is very nice when a man holds the door open for me. I think you are very sweet for being such a gentleman.
I know what you mean though.....I attempted to help a man in a wheelchair. He had his hands full and was struggling to open a door. I offered to help him, but he gave me a death stare and said he didn't want any help.
You just never know who will appreciate your efforts. Just continue to be the way you are and don't let those few "independent" people get to you.
One of the main reasons I married my husband is because he does these kinds of things for people. I am 29 and we have been married for almost 5 years. My sons even hold the doors open for people.

I love gentlemen. Chivalry is not dead.

If my arms are full, by all means open the door for me.

And even if not, when someone - man or woman - does something polite, I always say thank you.

And, please - let me return the favor once in a while. If your hands are full - or even if I just hold the door - do say thank you.

I think it's wonderful that there are still men that do this. Some women are uptight about it, though I dont know why...
My husband and I have been together for 7 years now and he still opens doors for me, opens the car door when we go somewhere together, etc. I love it!

Chivalry is def expected. It's sweet and shows respect. Feminists can just be a little cookoo.. i'd say almost all women would love to have the door opened for them

I'm sorry that you were treated so rudely. I have held the door
for men and women, sometimes I get a thanks, sometimes I don't. I always check to see if someone is coming before I let go of the door. Try to keep your expression neutral. This is one of those life experiences where you don't let the idiots wear you down. Don't stoop to their level. Women like that have a problem; it's not yours. And thanks for holding the door.
