Is the U.S. military more advanced than the U.K. or vise versa?

The US in a lot of area’s has the most advanced military equipment. In others areas the Brits have the most advance military equipment such as tank armor. I would say the Brits in many respects are probably better trained and more professional but on the other hand the US military is much larger than the British military, so it cannot provide the level of training that the British troops receive.

The US military is the most advanced in the world!- Has the best equipment and some of the worlds finest fighting units. However its not infallible and it can be criticised for its heavy handed approach sometimes leads to provoking more trouble rather than settling it.

The UK military is nothing to what it used to be! - Don't get me wrong its still damn good! but the guys on the ground are let down by penny pinching governments who rely too much on the superior quality of training and men to overcome shortfalls in crap equipment and logistical supply which often leads to adverse media comments and puts the lives of brave men and women at risk.

Contrary to what the first answerer wrote, the British have far more per capita "friendly fire" incidents than the Americans. The Americans have roughly 16 times the number of troops in the Gulf region, yet not nearly 16 times the incidence of fratracide. One reason for this is that the Americans have the technology called ID: friend or foe that the British do not. The British do have some badass armor on their tanks, though.

With the US government investing a more considerable amount of funding for research and equipment to their troops as opposed to our leftie tree hugging government then yes the Yanks are more advanced.. They have more kick *** gear and a seemingly never ending supply of it. The amount of times I've been deployed alongside the Yanks and had to go beg, borrow or steal the kit off them is shameful.

The one thing we Brits do have over the Yanks though as a result of this is adaptability (being able to work with next to nothing to achieve the end goal). To this end if you were to level the playing field and took all the shiny gear off the Septic tanks (Yanks) and gave us both the same job to do, then with our bodge it attitude we'd come out on top every time.

The U.S. has a higher military spending rate to spend on their military, but yet they share it with the Brits so they are both basically the same in terms of technology.

The British Military is with out a doubt the most professional army in the world they are home to the two most elite forces in the world SAS and SBS.
Brit SF train US SEALS so what does that tell you.

Reminds me of when I was in Scotland, and some of my fellow sailors and I went to Glascow (sp?) while on liberty (shore leave). We drove past a naval base, and the cabbie talked about how the British Navy is the most powerful in the world. My friends and I laughed and laughed!

The US is more advanced than the UK (although we design the chobham armour that protects their mbt's). However, without a shadow of doubt, no armed forces are more professional or harder than the UK forces.
