Twice today I've seen someone claim to be a scientist and then go on to say something that a person with those credentials would never believe. Does not even the fact that they are blatantly lying to convince people of religion make them realise that religion is a lie?

Jill, if you are really a psychologist, you would have had to take some university-level English classes for you degrees. So what's up with your grammar and syntax? I think you're lying. What, did you take one psych elective?

Religious people of the past were oftentimes the fathers of many inventions and discoveries. Most of them were excommunicated from presenting their finds and yet they remained believers until their death.
They did not say religion was a lie, they only went against those who insist on the mysteries of God to remain untouched for fear of losing "blind" believers.

Just because people do not believe the same as you does not mean they have not looked at the same evidence. There have been scientist who upon their discoveries have come to know God, not the majority of them but some. . .to each his own.

I'm psychologist. I don't know if you consider that a science per say. But I am also religious. But I don't expect anyone to believe what I believe.

Why can't a scientist be religious? Just because you don't agree with his beliefs he can still be a scientist. Not all scientists agree with certain claims of a few.
