I just read an answer to a question about "Harry Potter" books. Besides being ridiculously long, the answer mentioned that God hates spiritism, black magic, fortune tellers, etc. I've always believed these things were phony anyway. Since the Bible tells us God hates them, do think it means that there might be some validity to all this hocus-pocus?

I personally think the Bible is talking about trickery, lies, that sort of thing.
Christians believe in magic, they simply call it miracle instead. (Turning water to wine, changing wine to blood, etc) Harry Potter type magic is just for fun. It doesn't really exist.

God hates anything that keeps people from coming to him as their source of guidance and power. Often people who seek spiritism or fortune tellers are looking for guidance in their lives. Same with astrology. Other forms of magic are intended to give you power over another person (such as cursing or blessing them).

Whether there is actually any power in tose things are not is pointless. There is no power in idols, but God forbids them because they keep people from coming to him. Same with magic. Those who seek it are usually not trying to get to God through it.

I have read all six of the Harry Potter books. Enjoyed the first three, but wasn't as impressed with the last three with their darker tones. If I did not know the series was ending with book 7, I would probably not have read 6 or any beyond. I will probably read the last one after it comes out.

I found the first three books to actually have good moral endings. While the mechanics of magic was there in the books, very little of the philosophy was. But I can see the danger that someone could easily get attracted by the loving support that Harry gets at Hogswart and the fun that surrounds his magic, and want to imitate it. That could very easily get them experimenting with the occult and possible cause them to lose any relationship with God. It is for that reason that most Christians are concerned about the popularity of the Harry Potter books.

God hates anything that keeps people from coming to him, whether it is magic, or anything else.

You can worship The LORD of Righteousness within the title of Jesus the Son of God or you possibly can worship our God Jesus Christ the Righteous to the honor of The Lord of Righteousness. Either means The LORD our God The Everlasting Father Jesus Christ the Righteous Tsuvah Mashiach, a High Priest Forever in step with the order of Melchizedek is the one door to the Righteous Father (John 10:nine, Isa. nine:6). Revelations 14 will also be crossed referenced with Col a million:sixteen to exhibit the Jesus Christ the Righteous created all matters made. Now, Revelations 22:nine obviously indicates that the only talking is an angel.

Magic is from satan. Whether you know it or not magic is simply worshiping the devil. In fact any sin you do is basically worshipping the devil. If it's not pleasing to God then it's pleasing to satan. Magic and what not is not phony. It's very real. God hates sin. We are screwed if we don't have Jesus Christ in our hearts. Sorry but it's going to be a very sad day for witches, athiests, etc. or any body who does not believe that Jesus loves them so much that He died on the cross for your sins. Yes, Magic is real. Read the story of Moses in front of Pharoah when he threw down his staff and God turned it into the Snake and Pharoahs magicians turned their staves into snakes also. Satan gives power to his followers, but God can protect His followers too. Those that do magic are constulting the Devil for power thats why God calls it an abomination, (read Deuteronomy 18:9-12)

I don't remember reading in the Bible that god hates magic, it does say you should not seek to find out your future though such as tarot cards and what not and it is Sol I belief that is chastised by a spirit he had conjoured saying that such things are evil.

What a lot of this anti-magic stuff comes from is the old days of witches and warlocks were people thought others signed pacts with the devil to do supernatural acts.

Gee, can anyone give a list of people who have done magick in public? How about everyone who states that magick is evil? I'm sure you will find more people who hate magick then people who perform it in public.

Maybe if those who dislike it so much would start making things like crime, poverty and abuse go away then there might be more people who would STOP practicing? Just a thought!

It is a competition thing, God hates being upstaged by a more entertaining act.

When the priests wanted to show off miracles the last thing they wanted was a bunch of prehistoric Penns, Tellers or Amazing Randies around giving their secrets away. The result was that they wrote death sentences into their religions to deal with the problem.

He shouldn't - the bible is full of it....well literally and figuratively! But honestly, turning water into wine? Raising the dead? Multiplying fish and bread to feed millions of people? Prayer causing a mountain to move into the sea? Lions that magically close their mouths and don't bite what they have been trained to attack... If "God" claims to hate magic, he's a bigger hypocrite than all his little followers put together...

god does not hate anything. "hate" is not god. "hate is seperate from god and only present when god is not.
god created the world. he knows how it works. he tells you what you can do in your life to have the best time in this world he created. he says that magic and fortune telling is not real and if you choose to do it, you will not get what you want out of it. cuz god designed the world and he designed a way for you to get what you want and magic was not the way he designed you to get what you want. that is all. god does not hate anything. he just says, as amatter of fact, magic doesn't get you what you want. you can listen or not listen. it is up to you.
if you wanted to know the best way to take careof your car, you would prolly ask the people who built it, right?
