Notice that I said the word SOME. I am also a Christian but
I cannot get into a civil conversation about religion with my mom without her saying that I'm wrong and she's right and that if you are a true Christian that you won't want to sin and that there won't be no Karaoke bars in heaven - I was quick to point out that there probably won't be any shopping either. But I asked her how many people that she has won to the Lord since from what I read in the Bible that's what you are supposed to do and she could not name anybody. I just believe that no one should judge another person's faith or tell them that they are wrong because no one will know until they are dead who is right. She says she "knows" she is right. What are your opinions about this?

I call it the sports team mentality. If you are not on my specific team then you are wrong. Silly thing is that all Christians are on the same team. I wouldn't talk with her about this anymore if possible. Sounds like it is doing more harm than good.
If she really gets on you again, quote the verse that says don't point out the speck in your neighbores eye, when you have a log in your own.

I think what your mom has is alot of faith....and that is a good thing. But unfortunetley she also has alot of negative attitude.
I think you know my opinion on all this sexy.....

I will tell you a short story, maybe it will help...maybe not. :)

I have lived away from my family for 20+ years. Like an idiot I did not say NO (although I never said yes) to my mom when she told me she wanted to move to the small town I live in. So here she comes.....ugh.....my mother has also been the type to harass about 'why do you do that that way' (thankfully not in the religious sense) What I plan on telling her when she moves out...face to face, and have been doing in a nicer way each time we talk on the phone is ' I am who the hell I am, either accept it, shut the hell up, or go the hell away' May work, or may not LOL.... if it doesn't, I may come move in with you HA

I totally agree with you. I am a Christian also and I can't stand Christians that believe they are right and everyone is wrong. I think everyone has faults nobody is perfect. The Bible says it is a sin to judge others only God can judge a person. Everybody sins nobody is perfect. I also hate church's that say they are right and everyone else is wrong and they bash other Church's that is wrong. When I was younger I went to a church and there was a drunk lady that came into the service they kicked her out. That is wrong she probably had a lot going on in her life and wanted forgiveness and the Church kicked her out. My wife judges me all the time because I drink and smoke she thinks I am going to hell. I can't stand it when people judge others. It is wrong

I think you bring up some excellent points. To me, it seems, that the basic question within the Christian community needs to be a refocus on who actually goes to hell. The Bible teaches (or at least, the way I understand it) that sin is so severe that the only justice there is for it is death. Kindly, Christ died in our place so that we don't have to pay the penalty ourselves - but it seems the offer is only for those who will take it.

I state that just to bring me to my opinion. It seems to me that members within American Christendom have made a huge error in using hell as a weapon to those who believe differently than whoever is doing the talking. Subsequently, more conditions are placed on accepting Christ than simply accepting Him, such as "no karaoke bars" or having to vote for Republicans only. In my view, that's just plain wrong and dilutes the original message of the text.

While I personally am tolerant of other belief systems, I believe very strongly in my own. I don't believe that there is any other way to God but through Christ - if I wavered on this I wouldn't truly believe in my own religion, would I? that's the tricky part - believing in my own without forcing it on others. As a side note, not forcing doesn't mean for me not sharing because it is my great hope that all would see God for who He truly is.

Religion is based on faith. You don't know; you believe. The major problem with organised religion is that once you subscribe to a point of view then you have to automatically suggest that the other ones are wrong. Otherwise, why would yours exist and be different from the others?

So, people who believe that they are right then can form a moral obligation to show you that you are wrong so they can save you from eternal damnation.

I say the Hell with it. LOL

Jesus commanded His followers to carry out his Great Commission -- to spread the Gospel. I'm Christian, and I'm just like 99 out of 100 other Christians... who do little or none of that. Unfortunately.

In my case, it has been "little." The only real times I've done it was to pass out Russian-language tracts to Russians living along the Volga River, and in Moscow, in 1998 and 1999. They all were quite appreciative of my doing that. It is key -- whether in Russia or anywhere else you may seek to spread the Gospel -- NOT to be impositional. That's what I like about using tracts as my sole means of doing that. It gets in no one's face, is non-confrontational, and anyone can opt not to accept the tract.

There are a lot of PSEUDO-Christians out and about who are pursuing very hateful and UN-Christian agendas against the individual liberties of millions of people. Jesus never condoned any such behavior, and therefore it paints Him in a bad light when such people (the RRR cultists) do that. There is NOTHING Christian about the Religious Radical Right. The RRR is a cult that is drowned in ignorance and sheer hatefulness. It has no redeeming social significance.

That's what they are taught. Religion is one of those topics that can be discussed rationally if both party can be open. Use to I would never speak of religion to my brother. Heck we all avoided him and his over the top christian stuff. As time as passed and he became comfortable he opened his eyes and is seeing things for himself. He is still very much a christian but now he can talk about religion without passing judgement on others beliefs. Now we have discussions that I enjoy because I can ask him questions and he doesn't try to preach to me.

We may still disagree about some things but we agree to disagree and love each other.

Some people are just judgemental to begin with and by putting their guilt on you makes them feel better. Blow 'em off. Your correct in pointing out requirement to go forth and make disciples, but as you can see, she would rather go shopping instead. Pointing that out to the hypicritical christian only makes 'em more mad because they "know" they are doing wrong but choose to continue in it anyway...by saying she's right she is already wrong. Men for smarter than this little robot have tried to understand the precepts of God and cannot...what makes her think she can?

We cannot judge people because we cannot read their minds and know their thoughts...it is better to just say I disagree and move on before the cat fighting starts...This is one area where you just have to be the bigger person and guard your words and actions as you are only responsible fior yourself....

(this judgementalism is why I left the church...)

Believe what the Bible says. Read. God will not condemn you or send you to Hell if you do something that you did not know is a sin and have done it. But the moment that you do know you did something wrong then ask God to forgive you and sin no more. God Bless
