You need contacts, contacts, contacts ...

It helps if you are personal friends with some of the HR / recruitment officers in a number of major pharmaceutical companies ...
... and you need to attend the Clubs, Pubs and events where likely candidates can be found = at the very least you need to be a member of your local Golf Club(s), the Rotary, British Lions - MENSA if possible - and for sure the local chapter of the Masons.

If you are thinking of ringing up Companies 'out of the blue' and asking to be put through eg. 'to the Research Manager name unknown', forget it ...

Companies do not like their Staff to be 'poached' - telephone operators are trained not to reveal names - and if you don't know who to call you will be forwarded to the Security Officer in most big companies ... and the pharmaceutical industry are especially paranoid about security (as they should be) .. they all have 'Caller ID' phones ...
