Recently I had a dish with chicken, shrimp, crawfish tails, white wine sauce and cheese. I started itching 2 hrs later and by the morning I had a rash all over. Now I've had this same meal many times and have never had this kind of reaction. Was this a one time thing or could I have developed an allergy to shellfish?

Yes, it is possible to develop new allergies and iodine ( the allergy trigger in shellfish) is a very common one. The other thing about allergies is they can worsen over time. This means that while you got an annoying rash this time, you could get more severe reactions as time goes by.

If I were in your shoes, I would go get tested for an iodine allergy. Dietary limitations aside, there are so many medical tests which use iodine, it is worth finding out.

Good luck

This allergic reaction could be to either one of the ingredients in the meals or to other environmental allergens.
Allergies change as we age.
You can test for food allergies your self if you have strong feeling about what you might be allergic to.
Eat a very small amount of the food for two weeks. Then for three days do not eat the food. (This means all forms of the food - i.e. if you are testing for milk you can not eat cheese) Then do not eat anything on the next day until you are very hungry and have a little of the food you might be allergic to. Wait twenty minutes if no reaction have another small amount. Wait twenty more minutes. IF you have had no symptoms then you are not allergic, IF you have a reaction then eat another food to dilute the reaction. DO not do this test unless someone else is going to be around.

Stay away from that meal, the reaction has an accumulative response and could become life threatening in the future.

I would get tested. I could be anything in that dish that gave you the rash.
