You have a few choices in a situation like this.

First off, no matter what you wear you should tell your boyfriend that you are a bit uncomfortable wearing a dress.

Second, I would give a dress a try. Go with a good friend around to some stores, try some dresses on and if you find one that looks great then you'll be happy in it and so will he. I'm a big girl (although I don't like sharing my weight/size I will if it will help you), a size 28-30. I dislike dresses, skirts as well because I feel like I dont look good in them, but when I found a cute dress I screamed with joy (literally screamed) in the dressing room. I was so excited and surprised! The dress is hott and super comfy and it looks great on me! So if you can find a dress that you are comfy in and he likes then go for it! If not then wear black dress pants and a cute top. That always works too! :-)

Good Luck!

I never used to wear dresses either, until my friends wedding!! It doesn't matter that you're not used to wearing them. If you find the right one then you will feel fantastic in it, therefore making you look god dam hot!! Why don't you spend a day at a good shopping centre and literally try them all on!! Take your man with you, and, a trusting friend! If you still don't find anything, at least you've shown him you've made the effort!! If not, there are always skirts and pretty tops. As long as you've got something nice and appropriate on he can't moan!! You can always tell him you'll promise to wear a dress on the day he marries you!!!! lol. Don't worry about your size love. Just make sure you get a dress that fits you in the right places. That way, it'll slim you and cover the lumps and bumps that we all have. Clothes can have a wonderful effect if you get the right style and size.

Wear a dress. It's like a rule to a wedding, unfortunately. I hate dresses also and feel uncomfertable in them, but a wedding or festive occasion is definetely an exception. It would be rude to go to a wedding in something different then a dress- don't ask me why. A tradition maybe? Like the other answerers said, you can also wear a spaghetti strapped dress or sleeveless/topless. You'll feel great and beautiful in that- believe me.Anyway, dress comfortably- you can wear a skirt too. In a skirt (preferably white) you feel more confident and better then in a dress. You can wear a nice white halter and a pretty necklace. If you know the wed-to-be pair,be sure to bring them a present- either a melon baller or a pair of earring- but a wedding present is something that the couple will remember for a long time and will treasure. Instead of jewelry though, try to get something that both can use, like a kitchen item or a simple microwave. They'll apreciate it and will be relieved of at least one thing on the new-home-shopping list.

Go to a nice department store or boutique that handles larger sized clothing. Then explain the problem to the sales clerk and ask for help.

The nice thing about sales people is that they genuinely like clothes - and enjoy helping those of us who are fashion-challenged look our best.

A lot of times, these gals get paid on commission - which is also based on returned merchandise - so they're motivated to make sure you look really good.

You'll need a dress that fits comfortably - not one size too small - (stick to your guns on that one). Since you're going to a wedding - look for something more conservative - but still festive - so you don't compete with the bride. Look at separates too - You may wear a jacket in one size - but a skirt in another size. Again, your sales clerk is a wealth of knowledge and help.

Comfortable shoes with not too high a heel - and not a spiky heel either - a solid chunky heel is more stable to walk in.

Some matching jewelry or scarf

You may need to buy a slip or petticote - keep that in mind.

New pantihose

Day before - go to the hairdresser and have your hair "done" in something knock-your-eye out - and get pointers for makeup too.

Go to the event and shine like a queen for your loving boyfriend.

Wear a dress. You are supposed to look nice, and I'm sure that you will onec you get over yoru self steem issues.

Your selfconciousness is not the bride's fault and you don't need to be rude to your bf or the couple by wearing something unnapropiate for the event.
No jeans or pant suits please! No black, no white or ivory. No plunging necklines either. A conservative summer dress in pastel or summer colors would do just fine.

Good luck

How about a nice pair of pants and heels? That's what I usually wear. Is the wedding in the evening or afternoon, inside or outside...that will help determine the type of dress.

Wear a nice summery over the top wedding outfit. That's what weddings are for. Anyway who will look at you when the bride is centre stage?

You'll enjoy it and so will he if you can be a bit more giving.

Wear a nice pant suit, or a nice pair of pants with a nice shirt and some nice heels. It is what ever makes you feel comfortable, dresses aren't mandatory for weddings

Stop worrying. It is your life, and if you are not comfy, you won't be happy. You can look nice and not have to wear a dress.
Plus, if he is going to get upset with you over clothes, then you have many long days ahead of you. Good luck with that!
