this really fustrates me. even when the question is short, they just don't read it.
in a recent question, i asked "why are atheists so closed minded and why" then inside i continued "are non atheists so closed minded"
http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsxVVHJf6xUWIG6aI0FSo3rlPhV.?qid=20070601060752AAqKoxh
most people thought i was implying that atheists are the only ones closed minded, when clearly i was involving EVERYONE!

People are so closed minded that they thought they knew what you were asking at the beginning, so why bother to read all the way through. What could they possibly gain from MORE question?

Wow for a young guy you are being very rational and mature about this. I think its sweet that you are being sensitive to her feelings about this. I think it sounds like she's seeking compliments or maybe some validation from you because she isn't feeling as confident about herself. The depo shot can cause a lot of girls to put on a few pounds. If the weight gain is due to that and not bad eating habits then there are other options besides depo like birth control pills. I understand that physical appearance is a big part of young relationships and I don't fault you for wanting her back to the way she was. Encourage her to get in shape just to have a healthy lifestyle and tell her how important being healthy is to you. As with anyone though she has to want to lose weight, nothing can be said to make her if she doesn't really want to. You sound like a good guy I think she is lucky to have someone who is being so nice and understanding about this. Take care.

I've noticed that too - alot of people read the subject and - I guess - want to be the absolute first ones to respond, so they click on the "Submit Answer" button too quick! It's sad because on the answer page, the question is repeated (again!) at the top of the page, lol. :)
I bet it's frustrating...I get annoyed when people do that with e-mail. :)
And to add my two cents to your original question about close-mindedness, I don't think it has anything to do with religion; I think it has to do with the person in general. :)

This is a communication problem. Those you read your question think that they understand your question when you're actually ask about something else. Therefore you receive out-of-context answer.
