How do Canadians cope with the cold?

Being a Canadian myself, I'v adapted to the cold. It's great duing the months of May through the end of November where I am. The rest of the time it's cold, but have the right clothing it doesn't both you as much.

Well we wear winter coats, long johns, drink Tim Horton's coffee and well we are just used to it. This winter was long and cold this year than compared to other years.I think the first really cold snowfall was in October and Bam that was COLD cause we were used to the the fall weather. But after a few weeks in late October to early April of below 30 degrees Celsius just about everyday, you kind get used to it . In April i remember as soon as it hit the 0 degrees celsius all the kids in my school were wearing shorts and skirts as early as 8 o clock in the moring walking around like it was summer.(you know your canadian when?)You can tell if your canadian if you can notice the big difference of temperature between negative ten to negative twenty and negative thrity to negative 40 degrees celsuis.And yeah i agree with the others before me i think it is easier to prepare for colder weather then hotter weather and i personally would die from the heat in lower usa states.I barely get by here with plus thirty degree weather we sometimes get here.I hope this helped.

Layers, warm clothes, hot chocolate and that tiny shred of hope that summer may eventually befall us. The summers in most areas of southern Canada (the majourity of the population lives in the bottom 30% of the country) are hot. Today it is 35 degrees where I live, which is 95F. The city I'm from gets bitter cold, as does most of the country aside from the west coast in winter. We're used to it. I always say I'm more resistant because I'm a Russian-Canadian prairie rat (prairies here get unbelievable cold in the winter).

As a Canadian I would say, dress warmer and spend less time outside. But it doesn't get that cold in my part of Canada. You really should ask Americans. The number of Americans who live in cold climates is over 10 times the population of Canada.

In Canada, the winters are colder, but other than that we have similar weather to Chicago, New York, or other northen US cities.

And yes, the longer you stay in a particular area, you get used to the temperatures there. That is why you often see a lot of Canadians that go down to Florida and are out in bathing suits and swimming in January when everyone from the state is wearing heavy coats and looking at us funny ;-)

Crazy idea, but get this, we put on coats and wear pants!

I know eh? What a real mindjob. Who would have ever guessed that warm clothes counter cold weather?

But seriously, we're just used to it. Same can be said by us to people in warm climates, how do you people cope with the hot weather? I nearly die in the summer here, it's terrible. I already can't wait until fall/winter and summer hasn't even started yet, heh.

Much easier than trying to cope with heat. If it's hot, there is no getting away from it. If it's cold you only have to put on more clothing. And we only have to do it for a short part of the year.

Well, actually I live in British Columbia Canada and we have very mild winters. Right now it's hot out, and really sunny. The rest of the country does get cold winter however places like ontario and quebec have very hot and humid weather in the summer. So, I guess I can't really answer your question, since i'm from BC.

Most of Canada is only cold in winter, contrary to popular belief...how do we cope? With hats, Tim Hortons coffee, mittens, scarves, parkas and teeth gritted waiting for summer to come around.

In winter you dress warmly and your body gets used to it. Don't forget we do have summer and then fall before it gets really cold. It' not bam---(-30°C) from a whopping +30°C. Unless you go on vacation during winter! Then it's really a smack in the face. I've done that!
