the big one is if the start going outside of the litterbox. the associate the litter box with painful urinating so they are looking for a different spot to go.
you need to get your cat to the vet as soon as you see this happening so you can get some antibiotics and your cat (and you) can start feeling better.

All of the above missed the most obvious symptom - urinating outside the litter box. Cats with UTIs become extremely uncomfortable, and will try to relieve the pain anywhere they can.
Female cats who are too fat to clean themselves, and neutered male cats in general are particularly vulnerable to urinary tract disease.

Signs areL
+ Frequent urination, possibly with only small amounts of urine being passed
+ squatting in litter tray, straining to pee
+ no urine being passed
+ blood present in urine
UTIs are more serious in males than females - they have longer urethras which can become blocked by the presence of crystals, causing complete inability to urinate. This is an emergency situation for males - if they are unable to urinate the bladder can rupture causing blood poisoning and death. So if you have a male cat that has stopped weeing, you'll need an emergency vet.

Symptoms may be blood in the urine and trouble going as well as peeing outside the box. They are treated with a course of antibiotics. If you feel that is the case, don't wait too long to take care of the problem, best to you

All the above answers are on the mark...just one other little symptom my son's cat had. Andy would scoot across the floor on his butt.
