Close minded, denial, or lacking common sense are all reasons that apply.

A lack of spiritual experience . Before having any mystic experiences, I understood the religions primarily by reading, comparing notes with others and using my mind's logic to reason things out and come to my own intellectual conclusions.
I recognized many parallels between the different religions as far as symbologies, themes and characters go, but in retrospect I see how limited my understanding actually was. It wasn't until I had my own 'larger than life' experiences that I saw a very different picture. Instead, I saw many spiritual writings that could only have been written by people who actually 'knew'. Not all writings, by any means, but enough within the entire 'library' of religions that I knew those special writers could not be writing those words unless they had the very transcendent experiences that I was going through. Those experiences and the greater realities they reveal are what really unites the different religions. But keep in mind, those types of mystic experiences can also be found outside of religion.

I don't think most people take the time to objectively look at the religions of another. There are still others who don't really even socialize with those outside of their faith. It is impossible to find similarities when you focus on the differences or are committed to your team and refuse to look for the validity in another way of life.
I see the similarities between religions. They all seem to be telling a similar story to me and share many of the same points. To me, each one is a cultural interpretation of the creative energy in the universe and that is a beautiful thing to me. I think it's a shame that more people cannot see it.
Peace!

Judaism - believe that God is an absolute unity. Christianity - God is one compost unity: Father, Son, Holy Spirit Judaism - The Messiah is not come yet Christianity - The Messiah already came. He is Jesus, the Christ Judaism - No hell Christianity - Hell for everybody who believes not in Jesus as Lord and Savior Judaism - a pagan can reach heaven by some simple rules, like: to not worship idols, to not kill, to not commit adultery, to not steal, to not eat an annimal still alive, etc... Christinity - None reaches heaven without believing in the new testament and obeying the new testament of the bible. Judaism - Moses law is eternal Christianity - Jesus stablished a new covenant by his blood and then Moses' law is gone. the new testament is the new law now. These are some of the main differences.

People are indoctrinated at a very young age to believe that it's wrong to enquire about other religions and philosophies. The family/cultural religion MUST prohibit inquiry in order to survive. It can't maintain it's power over the people unless it has control and acquiesence of those people from childhood.

For some it is because to them that would make their religion not the One true religion. For others it is out of shear ignorance and denial.
I see so many commonalities between my own beliefs and those of others. Perhaps that is why I do not see a need for disagreements among religious groups.

Because leaders do their best to lead people to their own religion for his name tag pride, accomplishment, their believed intellects/ idealism, evilness charisma, money accumulation, fame & power.
Leaders don`t know, by dividing the people of God through their enticing words/promise/idealism...leaders have great responsibilities in misleading them to the people`s and group downful.
I`m sorry and pity people who are victims of misleadings by these immoral leeches of our society...I just hope everyone will find the true pathway back towards The Almighty Father and leave the group.
Just contact God & His Holy Spirit directly for their safe guidance throughout your life.
Good Luck...and ... Be Blessed !

Do you sit with your lover and watch a painted sky at dusk and see the same sunset? Do you see the very same tree in your back yard, that you son sees when he goes out to play? Does the world look the same through your eyes as it did through Einstein's, or Rembrandt's?
Is it possible that such differences are only a problem for those who see problems in differences?

I think most people do. Zealots are dangerous because they focus on the differences.... but most people in a religion feel comfort from their religion and don't get all nuts about the people accross the street worshipping in a different way.
That's why you'll find pastors and priests and rabbis and such working together in interfaith projects within different local communities.
The problem with this forum is that it focuses on extremes.... people who are EXTREMELY religious scare me as much as those who are virulently UNRELIGIOUS.
Best,
Adam

The problem lies in adherents to one religion being told how "evil" the other(s) are - and thus they are to be avoided. Repeat as needed to end up with mistrust and fear.
Meanwhile, many religions are similar in concept and basic principles.

I have seen them and studied it over 30 some years ago. At first blush they looked similar. But once I truly encountered Jesus I realized that all the others were just a shadow of the real truth.
