Forget the nations. Ths scientists want something done, because they see we're in big trouble if we don't.
99+% of scientists around the world believe global warming is real and mostly caused by us.

And any number of very distinguished people, too.
"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”
Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)
Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command
Here are two summaries of the mountain of peer reviewed data that convinced Admiral Truly and the scientific community, short and long.

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics. Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."
Jerry Mahlman, NOAA
Denying global warming now is like saying the Earth is 6000 years old. You have to ignore science to do it, This guy isn't real big on being Robin Hood to the world:
"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives Tuesday to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

Hi! mikeshaw here!
I have personally gotten 2,500 to 3,000 signatures for AVAAZ.org to be presented at the G8 meeting coming up June 8th regarding this very matter. So Many, so very many want to do the right thing, starting from a basic level.
We all want better for our future generations, gay or straight, regadless of race, creed, social standing.
It is NOT A SURPRISE...much in part to Yahoo! as this world is now smaller than ever before. Anyone can, with a modest investment, sometimes no $,POSITIVELY IMPACT THE LIVES OF OTHERS.
We all have so much in common. We are One People on the most basic level. In our hearts, this could not be a surprise to any of us. We are all concerned about climate change.
Polar bears drowning! Their body weight down 25% from not long ago! Cities in Alaska literally crumbling into the ocean. The cameras and statistics don't lie. One picture is worth a thousand words. To see an interview of a directly impacted victim...with a mortgage but no home...moves me to tears.
My friends in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Argentina,.....I've lived on 3 continents...they don't forget the more than 30,000 deaths only a few years ago in Italy and surrounding regions from
intense heat wherein the elderly had no air conditioning.
I have more than 2,000 people on a couple of mailing lists, from all over the world, mostly from local universities. Knowledge is power. We need to remember.....
IT WAS JUST ANNOUNCED THE ICECAPS ANTICIPATED TO DISAPPEAR BY 2050 HAS BEEN UPDATED, BASED UPON SCIENTIFIC MEASURES, to crumble 20 TO 30 YEARS Sooner!!!!
IT is NO Surprise that We All Want the most basic thing: to survive. Also, to have our future generations survive.

You're overlooking some important facts...
Combating climate change is about saving people and the planet from the cosequences of CC. This is the objective of the overwhelming majority of people who take concern with this issue. There will of course be those who seek personal gain, but can you think of any aspect of our lifes where this isn't the case?
Climate change has been known about for a long time - over 100 years. For decades scientists were trying to get a warning message across, they had nothing to gain by doing so. It was ignored by governments because the consequences of facing up to climate change are significantly more detrimental than doing something about it. Ultimately of course, it got to a point where it just wasn't possible to ignore for any longer. Governments would love it if CC went away, it won't and every government in the world now realises this.
There are many financial benefits to being environmentally aware and those who take steps to reduce their carbon emissions are financially better off. I can't speak for the US but here in the UK regular gas costs $9 a gallon. LPG costs half of that, a regular motorist will save $2000 a year simply by switching to LPG.
There are schemes proposed to offset climate change, some are quite simple and even if they costs as much as $1 billion it's only $0.15 for each person on the planet - hardly a high price to pay.

If the climate is not preserved, and something were to happen to earth to make it uninhabitable, then not only would Robin Hood not have a place to live, but neither would you or the rest of the planet. Its not about redistribution of the wealth, its about saving the lives on this planet, and yes that includes the sorry butts of rich people who don't want to fork over money for a cause bigger than them and their wads of cash.

No, preserving the climate is now utmost necessary to save the humankind.
Within years you are going to witness that water has become a major concern for worry and a good chunk of National Budget being diverted by all the countries for just procuring water for their population.

Well, given that global warming could lead to the destruction of us, our fellow species, and our planet overall, I think it's reasonable that nations world-wide want to stop it. I don't really feel like commiting suicide with global warming, thank you very much.

The fact that the people who push this solution have pushed it as the solution for dozens of other so-called crises doesn't seem to affect their credibility in the minds of some of the people on this board.
I'd love to sell them a bridge....

GW is a myth. It's a political posturing move and seems to be working with all the sheeple here that believe it's true.
Follow the money!!
Normal cyclical climate changes are occurring as they have for thousand of years.

Great idea, every nation should be taxed and give money to us so we can address it however we want. They won't be serious til they do this.
