It matters that you reach the destination sought, even then the Path continues.
The Lord Buddha taught us the Right Path to end suffering and reach enlightenment, he did not teach that it was the only Path. He himself tried many differing Paths. He reached his enlightenment via this method and was compassionate enough to pass on his guidance it only takes a choice to follow it or not.
What matters is not the Path but the journey, what does not matter is who follows it whether they be Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, Atheist or otherwise. The Path is there for all, the journey begins with a choice.
Peace from a Buddhist...

'the Way' is set - how you walk it is not.
I disagree with other answerers - the 'Tao' is a universal way, think of it as an event not a specific path
think of the direction of that event as 'towards Goodness'.
it's your 'Te' that is how you walk 'the way'. The only way paths differ is you.
onto your question: yes Buddhism leads you to a sensible response to a remarkable quality event, - life
there is no idea of all coming to Enlightenment regardless of method in life: with Buddhism you actaully have to be Good to have high 'Te', to have walked 'the path' well, and you have to be of exemplorary compassion to have a chance of reaching enlightenment.
With christianity you can beg forgiveness from God after an evil life and still gain access to 'Heaven'.
Best to be like water flowing not fighting!

Is this the same Siddharta who left a life of royalty to pursue an acetic life, and then when he finally ate he found the strength to see his meditation through to the end?
I think he taught we should follow the middle path.

Your "Path" is unique to you. It's discovery begins at that place your mind goes in between thoughts. The 'quiet' place... Read D.T. Suzuki for more.
