Since it's breakfast time right now:
My Grandmother who passed away almost 6 years ago would make the best family breakfast and I would help her. The kitchen would smell of coffee that I could get just a taste of since kids weren't allowed to drink coffee back then.
Anyway, the best thing would be her cheese and eggs (omg). We would have grits, cheese and eggs, homemade biscuits (fresh out of the oven), country bacon or ham (fresh off the farm), and sliced tomatoes---again fresh from the garden. She also made the best homemade lemonade that I still can't get quite right.
I can smell everything and taste it now. The biscuits melted in your mouth and the table would be set with the creamer dishes and we sat down to breakfast as a family and said grace every morning.
Gosh, I miss that. I miss my Grandma, but I know she's enjoying the best of the best. Thanks for the memories!! :)

A box of Cracker Jacks circa 1948. Sometime along the line the formula/recipe for Cracker Jacks changed. They no longer have the same taste. Another example of new but not "improved".
My sister makes a caramel corn that is almost as good. Alas only at during the Christmas season. Guess I'll just have to wait.

We called it a "tuna ring". My mom would make this dish that was shaped like a bunt cake but was actually tuna (and other ingredients) inside a crust then the whole thing was covered with a cheese sauce. Man was it great!! We moved when I was about 10 or 11 and the receipt was lost. Haven't had it since :-(

My Mothers buttermilk chocolate cake, no icing. Warm from the oven.
My Mothers fried chicken on a picnic at the beach. She would fry it and put it in a big stainless steel pot lined with newspapers to keep it warm , it would steam on the way to the beach and get similar to Kentucky fried. Sticky and Delicious.
I guess that tells me it is the memory as much as the food.
Yummmmm!!

Mushrooms on toast, mushroom soup, or tomato soup, either home made or Heinz cream of tomato (sick day comfort food!), no other brand will do - my grandmother's grapefruit and banana breakfast, my other grandmother's roast dinner - without the sprouts and yorkshire puddings, though the latter have grown on me in the last few years. Lots of other things, too numerous to think about without bringing tears to my eyes! Mostly because, since becoming allergic to so many things, and diabetic to boot, I cannot have them, and a lot of the people they are associated with are now dead. Must stop now - cannot see what I am doing. Touch typing!!

My mom used to make these wonder things called BUTTER DIPS. A biscuit like dough rolled out, folded in half and very lightly rolled again then cut into strips. Then you melt a stick of butter in a 9x13 inch cake pan and line up the strips of dough in the butter and bake until nice and golden brown. mm mm good. And as if that's not good enough you then split them open and schemer them with more butter and raspberry jam. My mouths just a-waterin'...I might have to go make some right now.

Werewolf pie! A dish dreamed up by a 5 year old me - basically it's mashed potato, peas and sweetcorn with lashing of tomato ketchup piled high and swirled together. Don't ask me why I called it that but I have indoctrinated my friends and we all tuck into WWpie regularly!
