BTW, that would be "gentile", not "gentle". Great question, though--I've seen that play about a half-dozen times and missed that line. Of course, historically people have had a lot of trouble with the anti-Semitic tone of this play......

The "hood" refers to the foreskin of the uncircumcised penis that was the physical distinction between Jews and Gentiles (non-Jews).
