it can clear, then the customer see it on there statement, reports it, and the bank returns it, the customer has rights and they can only report it for up to a 1 to 3 mts? depends, look up comsumer rights for more. But a bank can return a check anytime they want, all they do is call there clearing house and the manager sends it back per the ops mngr of bank, and they dont need a reason. it may not be correct, but whos gonna do anything about it? No body, they have atty on their payroll, they can fight you forever. eventually you'll lose they got more $$ then most do.

Sounds like you got caught in an internet scam. You are responsible for getting the identity of the person who gave your the check so that you can go back on them the same way the bank is chasing you for this. Hopefully you have a good id, address and phone number; take what you have to the local police; they will point you in the right direction.

More then likely you will never know when the check will actually clear the bank its drawn off of, however your bank has its policy's on when its made available. If you depoist a check and want to make sure its legit, wait at least 30days before using the funds. Good luck.

It takes a period of time for a fraudulent check to work its way through the banking system. It is not known if the check is fraudulent until it finally reaches its final destination bank, at which time the 'issuing bank' declares it fraudulent and worthless, and THEN it works its way backwards through the exact same channels it took in the first place.

This is why the banks tell you to keep track of your money in their banks if you didn't do this you need to go back & check every withdrawal in your accounts.
