question: are you 18? then it doesn't matter what everyone else says. according to the military you are old enough to make your own decisions.
what reasons are 'they' giving you for them not wanting you to go? do some research and be abel to allay their concerns.
Btoom line: it's YOUR life. you have to do what is best for YOU, not for everyone else.

If you are willing to live your life by what everyone else thinks, The Army is not the place for you. Try joining a Convent instead. The Army wants leaders, not followers.

The military is good for young people, but I can see why they don't want you to join now. They don't want you to go and be part of that senseless war. But its your choice, I'd look into the Air Force if I were you, they offer a better opportunity.

I joined and then told my mom " I got away to pay for school see you in three months". The key is to join first , tell everyone afterwards or let them find out.

Do you live in a crappy rural area or the inner city? Do most the people around you live in somewhate poverty, been in jail now and then or any other great accomplishments? If you answered yes, it is because they do not want you to succeed and rise above them. You will hear a few half baked excuses, but do what you want.

If everyone tells you to do what you want, and you want to join the Army, then JOIN THE ARMY.

They are telling you not to go because they know you will decide on your own... If they put in their $.02 they feel they are trying to protect you. All parents and friends worry and that is OK. You have to show them you can stand on your own 2 feet and make a decision.

Guess why they don't want you to go....you know where you will wind up. When you join during wartime....you are a patriot, and being a soldier is something to be proud of.
Look into the benefits, and the risks. There are other branches of the military also you could consider.

MrsJvb is correct. ;) This is what we tell everyone who wants to join--you do what's right for you and YOUR life, not someone else's.
Military's not for everyone. Do your research, be informed, read your contract(so that there's no whining afterwards). But above all BE INFORMED!
