I also have controlled hypo-thyroid and feel tired all the time. There are some vitamin supplements that help me:

1) Coenzyme-A. It is kind of expensive, but it works pretty well most of the time. It's best taken 1/2 hour before you eat. The cheapest place I have found it is online at Vitacost.com.

2) L-carnitine -- an amino acid that helps your body to produce more energy. Best taken on an empty stomach before you eat. Take 1000mg per day. It usually comes in 500mg tablets or capsules. Some health insurance companies will pay for this supplement by prescription. You may want to check with yours and maybe get a prescription from your doctor. My insurance paid for it for awhile, but then stopped, so now I have to buy it over-the-counter again.

3) B-vitamins. Get the 100mg and take it 2-3 times a day. Many people are deficient in B-vitamins and supplementing them will help you feel better.

4) L-tyrosine. An amino acid. Take 500mg - 1000mg a day. I think my capsules are 750mg and I take them once a day. This amino acid helps elevate your mood. It's best taken at night.

What do you mean by controlled? The TSH range is often too high at most labs and also the TSH is a poor test for thyroid function. If that's the only test your doctor is going by, chances are you are undermedicated. I will put some links below.

Also, if you are a poor converter of T4 into T3 and you are on only a T4 medication, the fatigue may not go away. Better thyroid tests are the free t4 and free t3. If the free t3 is under 300, then perhaps a T4/T3 medication like Armour or Thyrolar may help.

Knowledge is power, so learn about being hypothyroid. Only then, will you know what to ask your doctor. Never settle.

You say you hypthyroid is controlled, do you know what your free t4 and free t3 levels are? I know alot of doctors like to keep us undertreated. I was severly underdosed for a year before I switched doctors and now I am almost optiomized and I am on almost triple the dose I was before. I think everyone is different and some people need more than the normal dose to feel better. I am currently at 3 3/4 grain of armour which is 375mcg of thryoid hormone and I am not hyperthyroid. I have actually started to lose weight finally and my temps are finally getting close to normal.

You should speak with your doctor.

There is a normal range for TSH, but each person has their own normal value. Maybe you and your doctor should target a lower value.

Replacement treatment is usually synthetic T4 hormones. Some people take T3 (cytomel) also, and some take armour thyroid medication which is natural. Many people feel better on those.

I just started taking cytomel along with my normal thyroid medication to see if I will feel better. I had a thyroidectomy 3+ years ago.
