it has been awhile since i last studied these things.
Barnabus is in the same catagory as the book of Judas and Mary and all the others.
Well some scholars testify that the original church when the first books were all gathered were decided by the church, deciding which were legitiment and which were not.
There is a technical name for these books but i can't recall it...i'm sorry lol
Also many of these so called rediscovered books like the book of Judas first showed up years and years after christ and judas were even around. Some say that persons later on wrote script in a disciples name or someone associated with christ.
They also testify that most of these "scripts"
don't flow with the text in the bible and therefore are fakes.
thats all i can tell you for now.
I would google your sources a tad bit..i am sure you can find a legitment scholars study on this.
good luck

Sorry WWW but the Gospel of Barnabas is a fakery.
There may have been a Gospel of Barnabas once but the book calling itself the Gospel of Barnabas currently is a fake.
A Biblical scholar back in the nineteenth century published a book proving it was a renaissance forgery but someone got a hold of this and republished the translation without the notes proving it was a fakery and then some one trnalsated that into Arabic and tried to claim it was an Arabic translation of a lost aramiac text .... look like the Protocols of Zion its fake a propaganda tool that keeps getting reprinted by ignornat people who dont do thier research. Google or wiki it and you'll find dozens of articles proving its a fake.
Check out your nearest University library!
They may have a copy of the book that proves its a fake!
Jesus did not prophecise the coming of the Islamic Prophet this is a misunderstanding of a verse by the Holy Spirit in the Gospels .

WWW: You are getting many answers. I've read The Gospel of Barnabus as published in "The Lost Books of the Bible", and the introduction says this Barnabus was written in the second-century, about 150 AD.
Many people named themselves after a previous Bible character--many Marys and Johns, but that is no reason to say it is a forgery.
Barnabus would have written somewhere in Roman capitols because he mentions that he kept Sunday sacred, and that heresy is not in the Bible, but originated in Rome.
See www.revelado.org/revealed.htm for a Bible code predicting geat problems.

Number one, barnabas was not a disciple of Jesus. Two, all of the gospels and epistles used were the ones that were known to have been written within the lifetime of the individual. All of the writtings we have in the New Testament were known read and quoted within the lifetime and the next generation of the attributed writter.
Jesus would not claim that a true and final messenger would be coming, because he was claiming to be God, and that He was the only way to Yahweh. Allah is a pagan rock God that is worshipped by Muslims who claim that they are to have to idols. They bow down to the idol of Mecca 5 times a day.

I do not know specifically but there were hundreds of writings ommitted from Canon for various reasons. It could have been that the author could not be verified or that for some reason it was not suitable for teaching because there may have been parts written that were ambiguious. It may not have been accepted as inspired.
Barnabas was definitely one of the 70 and tradition says that he is one considered to replace Judas as one of the twelve. But, many writings were attributed to credible people but authorship could not be verified.

Because the oldest surviving copy of the "gospel" of Barnabas is only about five hundred years old.
The "gospel" of Barnabas was not written by Barnabas, nor was it written by anyone who knew him. It was written at least four hundred years after he died.
THAT'S why it was omitted, and THAT is why most Christians don't believe in it.

Barnabas is not a saint from God but was made as saint only by the Muslim peopleBarnabas is of satanic mind according to the bible of the Christians. There is no Gospel of Barnabas in the bible. because he is not a prophet of God either but against God.

It was not omitted. It was written much later, and so the appropriate question to ask is why it was not added. The most basic answer is that by the time of the rise of Islam NO new texts were being added to the Christian canon.
