Should i change my string gauge or get new tuning heads?

The problem may be the tuning heads loosening up, but also consider the following:

1. Do you wind the string around the post or do you run the string back under, and then over the string at the post as you tighten it?

2. Do you stretch your strings before their final tightening, such as holding up the first three, then the last three by three fingers at the sound hole to take out extra slack?

3. String gauge shouldn't matter. I use mediums on all my guitars and they stay in tune because I use the under and over pattern in tying them to the posts and then stretch them before final tunings.

Some tuning heads have an adjustment screw and a spring washer. If yours do, try tightening them (this is a very small adjustment, just a 16th of a turn or less).
Some older Martins had no truss rods, and they'll go out with changes in the weather, or even when the room gets hot from having a lot of people in it.

The best guitar I have ever had in terms of holding a tuning is my Takamine ESF-93. Once the strings are stretched out, I can put the guitar in tis case, take it out a week later, and it's still in perfect tune. Now don't get the impression I only play once a week, I have about a dozen guitars, and I use them all for different gigs and applications. I typically carry 3 to each job, but when I know I'm gonna be playing in a hot bar or on an outdoor stage, I always have my Tak with me.

It's possible your machine heads might be bad, but that would be a cheap guitar. With new strings, it is constant tuning until they stretch and get broke in, especially with nylon. After your strings have stretched, then just touch up tuning would be all.

Going to a lighter string gauge might help and is less radical than the machine head change.
