So often people who are FOR the U.S. war in Iraq use "Support Our Troops" to make their case. I DO support our troops... I am from a military family, and grew-up on a military base. BUT, I am completely AGAINST our soldiers fighting in this pointless war. Worldwide hatred of the United States is far more intense than it has ever been, we are far less safe than we were BEFORE Iraq (and after Afghanistan), and we will never be able to secure a stable supply of oil from Iraq. Even worse, by all but ignoring Afghanistan for Iraq, we are giving it back to the Taliban and Osama Binladin. How can I explain this to other Americans who think that being against the war is the same as being against our soldiers?

I think you already have made your position quite clear.
You only support the U.S. military in the role of a liberator/peacekeeper. Those who have a clear head in this matter should be able to understand you, and agree with you.

If our troops are killing Al-Qaeda terrorists, capturing computers, data and other intelligence information, capturing weapons, and taking the fight to them, how it is "pointless"?

And since when do Americans give a rats *** what the rest of the world thinks of us? We got attacked on 9/11, I didn't see the rest of the world coming to our defense. Unlike us, when they are attacked. So why would we even care what they think?

We haven't given a damned thing back to the Taliban. There are troops there. The Canadians have been there for years, and they've held the fort just fine. We have troops there also. The Taliban has been reduced to nothing. You're going to have insurgency, but don't confuse that with having "control".

We've not been attacked since 2001. How do you figure we're less safe? We've not had an airliner hijacked since then either. Saddam Hussein is dead. Two of the higher Al-Qaeda leaders have been killed. How are we worse off?

Al-Qaeda is splintered. They are nowhere as cohesive as they once were. How are we not affecting them?

You want an instant war, like you want instant coffee! Wars take years. And they cost casualties. Just because you're not getting instant gratification doesn't give you the right to throw in the towel and bring the boys home.

You're against the soldiers mission, so in turn, you are against the very thing those boys are laying their lives on the line for. And that is demoralizing. And that is NOT supporting our troops.

You might be a military brat, but you're damn sure no soldier.

Sounds like you are for war in Afghanistan. So indeed you are not against war in general just Iraq. To help you sort it out, try not to generalize our war against terrorism. Many errors were made in Iraq. We still cannot leave without letting the Iraqi government stand on its own. Now that AL Queda is in Iraq we must stay to destroy them there as well as Afghanistan. Our country will be okay with or without your support. You must always start out saying that although you support the troops we need to get out of Iraq as quickly as possible . That may help you some.

Why is it that all the world is against the USA? May be they need to change some of their foreign policies. TALIBAN are creation of USA and were backed by them to drive out the Russians. Now the Russians are also turning out to be against the USA. Why? Have you seen to days comments by Putin? I ask the USA people to have a neutral policy rather than the one that suites them. One of my Iraqi friend told me that there are no way to measure the oil that's been exported to USA and millions of gallons are being stolen everyday. by the way Saddam was also backed by USA until he invaded Kuwait.
And what's this friendly fire by the Americans where they keep killing poor British soldiers? are you guys that good?

People don't understand when people say "I support the troops but not the war" because they don't understand why you have add "but not the war." Why don't you just stop at "I support the troops." It's like saying "I like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, but not the jelly." Just say "I like peanut butter sandwiches," it makes more sense.

this is a great question, but you seem to think you are alone. you are not, i work at the veterans administration hospital in nevada, most of us think this way. alot of us here think that way. 1. we shouldn't be there
2. I support our troops
i mostly only choose to talk about and preach the 2nd one more. that is more important right now, we are already there, so they are the most important. i just went to 2 services for a 19 year old american hero, who died may 19 in iraq, wed. in sacramento, thursday in fernley,nv. my son's friend. he was a part of us and now he is gone. he made the ultimate sacrifice.
