The one common thread amongst 99.9999% of stressed and depressed people is high levels of negative emotional arousal. This is what makes you feel like sh*t and this taints your every thought. Things that seem utterly rational when you are in a highly emotional state seem laughably incorrect when you are more relaxed. Please try the following for reducing emotional arousal ASAP:

1) 7-11 Breathing
Breathe in to the count of 7 and out more slowly to the count of 11. The breaths should be comfortable (i.e. not straining to reach the numbers).
This stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system and will literally force your body to relax. This technique works with absolutely everybody.
If you want to make it more automatic and less conscious then there is a programme that you can purchase from hypnosisdownloads.com.

2) Alpha Stim
I bought one of these and although expensive (around £300) it provided massive relief within a few hours of using it. Apparently this does not work every time but the success statistics are very high and with no apparent side effects.

3) Cardiovascular Exercise
I run 2-3 times a week for 20-30 minutes and this has had an enormous affect on lowering my stress levels. Any cardiovascular exercise that is moderate to high intensity should quickly show a significant affect.

4) Diet
I find that a good diet and supplementation has a very beneficial affect on my depression. The main supplements I take are Omega 3 fish oils with a high EPA content from www.mind1st.co.uk.
If you don’t believe me on this one then eat say 2-3 chocolate bars at the same time, wait 30-60 minutes and see how you feel. You will find that your stress levels will increase and energy levels will decrease. I still often make this mistake (as I’m a bit of a sugar addict) and regret it every time.

5) Less introspection time
Keep busy and distract yourself from negative and stress producing thoughts no matter how hard it seems. Meet up with friends, family, throw yourself into housework, studying, your job etc. Make yourself so busy that your internal voice doesn’t have time to worry because it is too busy thinking about other things.

5) Books & Programmes
One of the best depression programmes I have ever seen is currently being sold for $1 on:
http://www.clinical-depression.co.uk/program.html
This programme normally retails for $97 but they are so confident that it will work that you only pay the difference later if you want to (no strings attached). I actually bought this programme 3 months ago for $1 and have had to pay nothing since.
Recommended books:
How to lift depression […fast]
ISBN-13: 978-1899398416, Joe Griffin, Ivan Tyrrell
This book is short, to the point and very effective.
Mind Over Mood: Cognitive Treatment Therapy Manual for Clients (Paperback) by Christine Padesky (Author), Dennis Greenberger (Author)
ISBN-13: 978-0898621280
This book is an excellent manual for cognitive therapy but I would only read this once you have read and tried to implement the first book.

Good luck and all the best

the body is really receptive to the sun so try that unless you have hormonal unbalance or have blood pressure problems. it is also important to identify what puts pressure on you and depresses you. usually if the cause is not treated, the depression and tension will return even if for a while all is well.
in most casses it helps to talk to someone who can keep things objective for you.

yoga is the best healer in tension & depression. Also try some "art of Living courses"

It is very easy to become free from depression. It is said that God helps those who have courage. God also says, "if you take one step of courage then I shall take a thousand towards you." Ups and downs are part of life, but instead of becoming depressed, frustrated or disheartened, let's face the problems with courage and determination just like we meet challenges. The garland of victory is presented to the one who sees even 'defeat' as the path to success and keeps on his constant efforts. And during these present times of religious defamation, it is God himself who has come down to Earth to bless us with His shrimat and He is giving us a pen of Knowledge to write down our own destiny of many births. So, why should I be disheartened, hopeless or sorrowful? The ones who always have elevated and positive thoughts and thus use the treasures of their thoughts as well as their time in a worthwhile way are the ones who attain success. The time of night and the days of sorrow do not remain forever. If we keep on playing with the awareness that this world is a game and my life is a toy, then life will become very sweet and easy. With the practice of Rajyoga, my mind always remains cheerful and powerful. So let's learn the technique of Rajyoga to free ourselves from depression and to receive various treasures that are being given by God.

Stop all those activities immediately that can cause tension or depression no matter how much profit it gives.

See depression at http://www.ezy-build.net. (.net.nz/~shaneris) on page 2. Tension is often "stored" in the muscles, often around neck and shoulders, and responds to massage, acupuncture, and acupressure, so try the EFT method at www.mercola.com It is related to stress, so see page 7.
