I am going to my colleague's wedding in July. It is so called the duty wedding. I don't really want to stay there until the end. When is the appropriate time to leave?

It's considered rude to leave before the cake is cut. Sorry. Been there, done that.

Maybe they'll have good food or a fun band so you can dance your boredom away.

You can leave immediately after the ceremony, especially if there is a receiving line. Shake the couple's hand (and whatever other folks are in the line), wish them well, and tell him/her you'll see them at work.

If you stay for any part of the reception, just make sure you don't leave during a "big moment", and don't leave before the cake cutting. If you have already spoken to the bride and groom, you can simply make a quiet exit. There is no need to stay for the whole thing or say goodbye to everyone.

You also have the option of sending a gift and skipping the entire affair. If it's a colleague, you want to do something nice. If you don't want to go out and select something, or do the gift-registry thing, then you can opt to have a fruit basket or a bottle of wine sent to their honeymoon suite, or even send a gift certificate for a nice restaurant to them where they are staying.

It is never polite to duck out before the cake is cut. If there is a seperation between building you could leave before the reception.

Some time after the 'special' dances are done - the first dance, family dance, etc. Who knows? You might actually find yourself having fun and want to stay!
