the problem is with my dvd player. I'll try and keep it short. I have a Akai tv vcr dvd combo and I put in a really scratched dvd but i didnt know it was scratched until i took it out and saw it at a different angle. so the dvd broke the player. I took it down stairs before the tv repair guy came to fix it and I guess the way i took it down the stairs fixed it because I tried it again just for the heck of it and i put in a dvd and it worked! I was shocked so i took it right back up it worked fine for a while then it broke again so i put it on my bed to mimic the rocking motion that i did taking it down stairs and it worked! So it keep braking then I would do that rocking motion and it would work It broke today so i tried it again and it didnt work I tried for probably 1/2 an hour then i gave up I really like this tv and the vcr still works so i dont wanna get rid of it. there must be something out of alignment that wont go back. so if i can fix it my self that would be great thanx

i dont want the tv repair person to touch it anyway. he came before to fix our big screen tv in our family room. i just decided before he even arrived at our house to let him look at it and see if he could fix but then i brang it down stairs and it fixed it self! so if any one has a way to fix it the 60$ is yours! I would be glad to give it to you cause this is an on going problem and i would love to finally and permenantly fix it. I could buy another tv but the vcr and the tv part is fine. im not sure whats wrong I just had the scratched dvd in there and it had a lot of trouble playing it then it just stopped playing it all together. and its weird cause its like it can be fixed but only for a while. is it even fixable any more? cause i did this quite a few times. it would work for a about 2 months then it couldnt load the dvd I think one time it lasted about 5 or 6 months! so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)yes i will give u 60$ tell me where to send it!

unscrew it and see what happens when you put another dvd in maybe if it off track and needs to be realigned you can try to realign but you have the right way to do it otherwise see if it can be repaired sometimes it's better to purchase a new one make sure you check all dvd;s be for you insert the dvd and please don't buy bootlegged dvd that is fast way to break it. I hope I have been of help 60 dollars or not good luck

You can keep your TV/VCR and spend $40 to buy a top of the line DVD player! Buy the cheapest you can find with component output. This is less than you need to fix it. Today, you can buy even DVD recorders for about $60.

Most probably your problem is with the optical pickup unit, but there is not much you can do.
