Flying from Australia to USA with 3 yr old. Do you pack video camera in your carryon?? seems heavy and plus will be most likely carrying child, plus hassled when going through security to prove it is a video camera and nothing sinister. Where do you pack yours?

I've packed mine the last 3 times in checked and not had a problem. Have any of you?

I always have my digital camera and movie camera in my big 'baby' bag when travelling to NZ and back to Aussie. (with bubs)
You just can't trust no one - and they (airline staff) are very rough with the suitcases throwing them around and all -I've seen it heaps.

Bottom line - if it's on you, you know where it is at all times and it's safe.

I've never had any problems with security with the cameras on me.

Have a great trip

Wow. You've been lucky!

There's no way I would pack something like that in my checked luggage. I've seen the way the baggage handlers throw luggage around, and I have had someone rummage through my suitcase on more than one occassion.

I always carry my digi camera and video camera in my carry-on. I have a backpack as my cabin luggage and I have never had a problem with security. Shortly after 9/11, I had to show that they worked, but I haven't had to do that recently. The x-ray machine shows what it is anyway.

I live in Aust and would never ever pack my camera in my checked luggage - domestic or international travel. Take a good size backpack on board with you and thats the best way to go. You shouldnt have any worries with proving what it is, they all go through the scanners these days and everything can be seen.

You've been incredibly lucky. Never again pack your electronics or irreplaceable items in checked bags. Carry them in your traveling bag. Perhaps you need to buy a smaller camera.
