When I tried selecting the repair feature, it asked me for an administrator password. I never selected one to begin with, so what should I type? And which commands should I select?
Your help is apreciated.

Larry Magid's book "The Little PC Book--Windows XP Edition" (2003 edition) says the ADMINISTRATOR is the person who set up the computer in the first place. If you set it up, in other words, you are the administrator and do not necessarily need a password. If 2 or more people plan to share the same computer, then each one should set up a USER ACCOUNT with a password to get to their personal area of the computer (on the opening page, click on "Create New Account", give it a name--such as "Joe's PC", click Next, and then it asks if Joe's account is limited to Joe or to the administrator.). The administrator has privileges over ALL accounts, even to wiping out other people's files if he/she thinks they are inappropriate. "CHANGE ACCOUNT" lets you modify an account once it has been created--like adding or changing a password. If all else fails, go to the Start Menu and go to HELP AND SUPPORT (there it gives you all sorts of information--like 39 articles on "Administrator password" for example).

Maybe it is blank, just hit enter, if it asks for a user name then type in Administrator then hit enter. If that doesn't work then you will have to find out what the password is it might be the same as what you use to log into your computer.

I recommend that you just cut your loses and install Linux instead. Try a demo version first, runs off a cd or dvd, then do a full install. You can download a version off the web, its free to download and use. Try OpenSuse.
