To use something in vain is to use it without purpose. The early Church members were often caught by Law Officials because they "called on the name of the Lord," implying an obvious vocalization that was apparently, more than quiet.
I believe Blasphemy is a statement or action that either directly challenges God's ability to exist or work directly, or through a Divine or Authorized Being, or a statement or action that clearly indicates an intention to do so. (A spiritual "Act of War" if you will.) Note that all Biblical References to Blasphemy follow this rule in Judeo-Christian Scripture, and many others (except Islam).
Additionally, doubting in the Lord would not be Blasphemy.
The original meaning of the word Science, rooted in Latin is "That which proves/validates Religion" thus following the concept... if you can't prove your interpretation of Scripture is 100% accurate, you are not required to believe it.
Clearly, all concepts found in the Torah can be 100% verified to match all Scientifically understood proven "theories" such as Evolution and Divine Intervention (found in Genesis).
The Big Bang (found in Genesis, and the Zohar - A Judaic Script, directly referenced 2,000 years ago).
These things can be easily validated as factual or physical possible by natural laws using basic Science, Quantum Physics, History, Logic, Rationality, and a few other books, and adding together a few concepts that correlate them all as pieces of the same puzzle.
Concerning the New Testament, however, one should read the book "Misquoting Jesus" for clarification, and learn these two words from Greek.
Logos = The written word, which can be changed and is processed logically through the mind.
Rehma = The breath of God, or Spiritual Word, which is Eternal, unchangeable, and never ending.
Thus, the Bible does not say it cannot be changed, though the Old Testament is mostly intact, specifically the first five books (The Torah).
Reading this book "Misquoting Jesus" might help you understand that it is not so much a lack of Faith in God, as man's current perception of God, and I highly recommend it to encourage your Faith, as the concept of blind faith seems to make people realize they lack it, unfortunately, and make others (such as Scientists) disrespect Christianity as a whole.

Blasphemy is the defamation of the name of one or more gods. These may include using sacred names as stress expletives without intention to pray or speak of sacred matters. Sometimes blasphemy is used loosely to mean any profane language, for example in "With much hammering and blasphemy, the locomotive's replacement spring was finally fitted."
In a broader sense, blasphemy is irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable. In this broader sense the term is used by Sir Francis Bacon in the Advancement of Learning, when he speaks of "blasphemy against learning".
Many cultures disapprove of speech or writing which defames the god or gods of their established religions, and these restrictions have the force of law in some countries.

I could give you a few examples, but it may offend the poor fragile sensibilities of the myopic!! 8o)

Something a religious police like the Mutaween might charge you with, meaningless to the rest of us. A very medieval and arcane term.

Blasphemy is a major sin. It is sin to say anything bad or disrespectful about God or religion or to take the name of the Lord in vain.
