In the video, apparently the girl is riding in it for, fun? Can you really do that?

Apparently, someone at the "base" or whatever is controlling the plane, not her. If you watched the clip from the link you'll notice that.

The only people that I've seen is news anchors, for publicity purposes, when an air show is being performed in the area,I don't think the B.A's are permitted to give rides to just anyone.

First of all, another answerer said the F-14 was an Air Force plane. This is very incorrect. It is definitely NOT an Air Force plane, it was designed for carrier landings, so it was flown by the U.S. Navy. As for why it was not chosen by the Blues, personally I believe one reason could be the swept-wings of the F-14. Because the wings sweep automatically during flight depending on the speed of the aircraft, it would be both unnecessary and distracting for the wings to move since the Blues perform some stunts at high speeds and others at low speeds. Also, since the Blues are most concerned with entertaining air show viewers on the ground in order to increase recruiting, aesthetics are a big concern, so the focus should be on what looks best from the ground. The F-14 is much bigger and not as graceful looking during flight as the F/A-18 in my opinion, but the Tomcat is still a great plane.

Celebs and members of the media can occasionally get rides, usually for the publicity value. I did 21 years in the AF and the highpoints of my career were rides in the back seat of an F-16 (Kunsan Korea, 1984) and an F-15 (Langley Virginia, 1989).

She did exceptionally well and was well trained. She pulled 6.4Gs without blacking out and was obviously well versed in the G-Strain maneuver to keep from blacking out. I blinked out around 7.9 Gs on my way to 9 Gs in the F-16 ride at "The Kun". And we both kept our breakfast down. Not everyone does!

If you ever get the opportunity to ride on one of those machines, TAKE IT! The first time the G-suit inflates you'll instantly understand why fighter jocks (male or female) so LOVE their mounts!

Celebrities, news reporters, congressmen/women, hot chicks...those are the people who generally get the Blue Angel rides. She's in the back seat of a 2-seat F-18, you can hear the pilot on the intercom. She's not by herself, in other words. If you ever get the chance, be grateful and don't act too tough...not everybody gets sick on the ride but if they want you to, YOU WILL. This pilot was very gentle with Kaci.

Although they don't give rides to anyone, I have seen Tiger Woods and other lesser know celebrities get the chance to take the ultimate flight.
