When they just say it to feel better. because that actually makes the soldier feel worse, for them is like then what the hell are we doing here. because whe cant just leave the situation revert to what it was or worse. because then all those soldiers would have died for nothing.

We say we support our troops because we pray for them everyday. We want them to come home to us and their loved ones alive instead of in a box. We also want them to return un-maimed. We can't win in Iraq. It is an illegal and an immoral war. Bring out troops home alive NOW.

It is true that we have created a civil war in Iraq, but our continued presence will not put an end to that. They will settle it themselves when we return home and leave them alone. What we should do is send those troops out to look for Osama bin Laden. Did you forget he was responsible for 9-11?

Why should the soldier feel worse? The soldier took an oath to follow the orders of the President of the United States. If a soldier dies while honoring that oath, that death is not in vain.

We didn't win the Vietnam War and I don't hear anyone saying that the Vietnam Vets are less heroic for it.

Democrats have been saying that GWB misled the nation to go to war in Iraq and as such they say that they support the troops but not the president.

In 1999, Republicans were saying that the only reason Bill Clinton sent troops to Kosovo was to make people forget about Monica Lewinsky and as such they said that they supported the troops but not the president.

So that you know, let me start by writing that I am a veteran.

I support the troops. I do not support the President's policy on Iraq. I believe the presence of US troops in Iraq at the present time is causing more damage than withdrawing them would, to more than just the Iraqi landscape or people. I am, onviously, not equating supporting the troops with supporting the Iraqi war. But then, the war and the troops are hardly the same, though it has been politically important to many to claim they are.

As I have written elsewhere, let us all --including Presdient Bush and the members of Congress-- support the troops. Make sure they have adequate medical care, jobs when they get back, and care for their families while they are there (and when they don't come back). Let them know we appreciate their courage. Say thank you.

Never equate those things with speaking in support of a Presidential policy.

I doubt that the soldiers really cares about what this type people are saying. They know who they are, they are the US military, the best. They are there to do a job and will do it, and will be unhappy if they are not allowed to finish it. They are brave, honorable and the best people in the world. When they joined they knew what sacrifices they might have to make. Real shame that some here can not even sacrifice not having their soda pop or cup of coffee every day. I support the Troops and the war, 911 attack in NY, could have been in the city I live in.

No, I do not hate it. I truly believe a person can like us as soldiers, but hate the fact the NCA commited us to war. I see no conflict. Remember verse two of Tennyson's, the Charge of the Light Brigade:

Forward, the Light Brigade!
Was there a man dismay'd?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Someone had blunder'd:
Their's not to make reply,
Their's not to reason why,
Their's but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Now, assuming you are a soldier, you are the Light Brigade in the face of somebody's blunder and, I opine, so is every other soldier deployed. A soldier must do his duty. A soldier is called upon to make difficult choices and do unpleasant and horrendous things. A soldier is not asked if he likes his duty. He just does it.
Sorry if you don't like my answer.
Regards.

No. Everybody supports the troops. The majority of the United States is against this occupation. It is not a war as you say. Look up the definition of war in the dictionary. Also read in the Constitution about the powers of Congress. It was never a legal war. Vietnam was called a conflict for the same reasons. We have to bring the troops back because they are illegally over there doing illegal things.

Edgar, I support the troops and I wish them well. Do your job and do it well but do not ask me to support a war in a place that our troops should not be. If you feel badly about being in Iraq then say so or ask to be re-assigned. The many soldiers that have died in this war have died a senseless death for a political agenda that most of us do not understand or support.

um. They might not support the war but they support the soldiers simply because they are following orders. The soldiers have no say in the matter and are just following orders. Whether you agree with the war or not anyone w/ a heart would feel compasion for them and support them.

Its just like sometimes your parents might not agree with what you do or choices you make but they still support you because they love you and want the best.

But that's not what anyone's trying to do..don't you think some people empathize with soldiers feeling like "what the hell are we doing here?" and really want our governemnt to either bring them home or win a war. Its sad that our passion to defend the life of the soldier is misconstrued and i will take that to heart. I suppose the person who is heard the least is the soldier.

It's too late for those soldiers now. The war should never have happened. This situation was foreseen by most other countries who knew the history of Iraq. The USA is now in a lose/lose situation.
