I am not Jewish but Israel is the Holy Land. The people of Israel were the "chosen people". However, when Christ arrived most of them did not accept Him because they were expecting the Messiah to be a mighty warrior who would strike down their enemies with vengeance and fury. However, don't take my word for it. Pick up the bible and read it. Peace and God bless.

The core reason why Jews view the land as holy is due to the special status that the Hebrew Bible gives it with regard to Jewish religious observance, the fact that Jerusalem was the site of the Temple, and most of all, the fact that the Hebrew Bible refers to it as a divine gift.
Jewish kingdoms and states existed intermittently in the region for over a millennium. Archeological evidence shows that the kingdoms of King David and King Solomon existed.[citation needed]
Under foreign conquests, Jewish presence in the province dwindled due to forced mass expulsions and persecution by Romans, Christians and Muslims. In particular, the failure of the Bar Kochba Revolt against the Roman Empire resulted in widescale expulsion of Jews. It was at this time that the Romans changed the name Syria Palaestina to the geographic area, in an attempt to erase Jewish ties to the land, even changing Jerusalem to Aelia Capitolina, but with little success as it had had with changing Judea to Palestine. The Mishnah and Jerusalem Talmud, two of Judaism's most important religious texts, were composed in the region during this period.
Judaism's holiest cities are Jerusalem, Hebron, Tzfat, and Tiberias. Jerusalem is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible over 700 times and has only ever been the Capital of a Jewish State.

Because it is. The Jews conquered this land centuries ago and claimed it for their own with the power of God behind them, and His blessing as well. The Holy Land was promised to the Jews through the covenant that God made with Abraham, who by the way, is also the ancestor of Muslims as well as Jews.

Israelis (Jews) are commanded to settle on all the land promised to them: Numbers 33:53 "Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess."

Long ago in the book of Genesis, it was promised to a man named Abraham and God told him this would be the home for his people.
It was also the land in which David and Solomon kept the Arc of the Covenant and built the Temple.

Quick history lesson: Did you know that Jerusalem sits right on the center of the Earth Geographically? And that it touches Asia, Africa, and Europe?
Oh, your question: Most of the history is centered around that region, and what I mentioned above.
