Let me start out by saying that I've been feeling weird all day. It's hot and I didn't sleep well last night and that always makes me feel weird...
But earlier tonight I had the sudden urge to just cry. I didn't, but all I wanted to do was cry. Don't know why, nothing sad, but whatever. Then all of a sudden I got really tired and really nervous and scared and a little shortness of breath. And now I'm really scared to go to sleep because I'm afraid I won't wake up.
What can I do? Is this a panic attack? How can I calm down so I can sleep? Please, please help me.

Sounds like a panic attack. Might try a nice hot bath and a glass of wine. I usually goout and mess with my horses when I get them. Getting busy or total relaxing are the keys to getting over the hurdle.

Yeah hon, I think its a panick attack, but mine are different. I feel upset like I just wanna drop to the floor and scream and cry. We're all different. I find it really helps to listen to music.. I dont know what kind your into but find some of your favorite or most soothing songs and go lay in bed and listen to them in the dark. just close your eyes and relax and concentrate on the music.. believe me it helps soo much! Another thing that helps in the day time when your feeling stressed is writing stuff down. In school i just grab my notebook and put my feeling on the page. Its such a relief! If you want, maybe also try taking a nice warm bath or shower before you go to bed to help relax you. Just do whatever makes you soothed and comfortable. Maybe even go for a run to vent a little. Dont worry, lots of people have these and your not alone. Relax and take care!

Lack of sleep can often cause these feelings, and so can depression. Has something unusual happened in your life, lately? I wouldn't call your symptoms typical of a panic attack, but more like stress or a nervous disorder. In any event, a mild tranquilizer will calm you down and enable you to sleep better. (Yes, you will wake up -- trust me!) See your doctor for some medication and reassurance.
