I'm looking into buying a used 300ZX twin turbo but it is leaking power steering fluid and i don't know where it is coming from. I would like to know an estimated price of how much it would cost to replace the entire PS system just for a worst case scenario reference point. I would really appreciate it if people don't tell me to call a nissan on dealer or tell me to search through some websites. I would just like a straight foreword answer. Thanks.

I know i don't need power steering, i dont even really care if it works, It's just dripping on the belts and it causes them to slip. I just want to know what i would be getting myself into if say the whole system was shot.

i own a shop, and id say for everything about 800 bucks for everything ,labor included also,id make sure the car is worth doing that much work too, that's a lot to spend on it,and that's just an average price also, some shops will charge a lot more on this one,it all depends on the shop, and where they get their parts at,good luck with it.

Replacing the whole power steering system will cost a lot more than you think. Especially if you add in the cost of hydrolic rear steering system of the earlier cars. Later model TT's switched to electric.
Are you planning on buying new Nissan parts, used parts, rebuilt parts, aftermarket parts? That will have a large effect on how much you spend. A new steering rack alone will cost you at least $700. The lines are also a bit pricey on the Z32.
No one can tell you what it will cost. The car has to be looked at. You won't have to replace everything so that number wont help you. Chances are it will only be one thing that is failing. I'd guess its a line but its impossible to know without seeing it.

Take John Paul's advice. While these are tremendous cars, they represented the highest technology Nissan had in that era. Because of this, they can be extremely expensive to repair and all Turbo models have the Super Hicas system (rear-wheel steering). You really don't want to drive it without the power steering. It's worth $75-$150 for a Nissan master tech to look over the vehicle before you buy it. In the worst case this could be nearly a $2k repair, but I doubt it will be. Also, be sure the past owner can prove oil changes because you have to remove the engine to do a turbo change. Best of luck!

Unfortunatly the Turbo has Hicus 4 wheel steering. Please get it to a mechanic like me that will show you the leaks and repair only the right stuff. Two stage powersteering pump on that model is very expensive. Most likely the suction and return rubber lines are all that is leaking. Steering rack generally drips on the ground. Lines and pump can leak onto the belts. I have never replaced the entire system on 1990 to 1996 Z's

well if its just a hose, its not big deal, usually those kinda things can be fixed relatively cheap, aslong as its not the rack and pinion which could cost somewhere from 200-400 dollars just for the part, the labor is something else, probably around 75 and hour and its a 2 hour job.
if its not leaking much power steering then its easier just to buy a bottle and fill it up once a week or something, of take it to jiffy lube for them to check it to make sure it isnt the rack and pinion. besides power steering isnt essential, it just makes slow driving alittle big easier, and its not big deal if u just leave it the way it is and drive it. a friend of mine drives an integra without power steering because it took up too much space, so he just dumped the little container and the hoses and he was ready to go, but it makes parking alittle harder

sounds over full, if you have the cap off while it is running and turn the wheel all the way left and right it should bleed all the air out of the system, now make sure fluid is at correct level, it should have a line for hot and a line for cold.
