What dice game did they play in Pirates II?

I have no idea wtf happened in that scene when they were playing the dice game for the key. Where they trying to guess how many numbers were under all of the cups? and how come they continued betting after the cups were lifted?

they didnt continue betting after the cups were lifted. the betting was finished before they started to play. eturnity on the ship vs. the key.

what they were doing is "bidding" you only get the info from what your 5 dice tell you. you do not see any of the other people's dice. now what you want to do is figure out which of the highest value (1-6) is on the most dice (up to 15 with 3 people).

#1 bids 3;2's not lieing , if challenged he wins

#2 bids 5;5's same thing

#3 bids 7;5's samething. i think this is similar to what Will jr had where he was just over the "lieing" threshold (dont remember the exact count)

#1 (boot strap) bids 12;5 (he did this because he didnt want Will jr to lose) forcing Davy Jones to either call him a liar or up the bid (+13;5's) and be called a liar himself.

if it is your turn you must either up the bid or call the previous a liar

It's called " pirates dice " the rules are quite complicated. it entails five dice in a cup shaken and then placed on the table. My suggestion is to Google Pirate Dice Rules.
also they kept on guessing so Will would see where Jones had the key and his father guesses to keep Wll from joining the crew.
